Accident Prone

The motorcycle (see photo above) was purchased by my brother-in-law, last February. The purpose according to him is that he wanted this to be my brothers' instrument in learning all about the road; how to be safe and how to follow the traffic rules.  When I heard about this plan, I of course voiced my string protestation. It was to no avail because even my sister is adamant about owning a motorcycle, stating the usefulness of having a vehicle in the house.

While I will not discount the fact that at certain times this motorcycle comes in handy, as it negates the need to take the 10 minute walk from the house to village's main gate. This has also been useful for my brothers whenever they would go to the market for our weekly provisions. However, as I am writing this article my 4th sibling Angelo just came home with a bloody face from a motorcycle accident.

My brother apparently got very drunk and decided to take a spin, and he lost control so ended up crashing in our fence in front of the house. So yeah, the vehicle is innocent and it is always the improper use of such machines that creates unfortunate/unpleasant events. But again, just by looking at the motorcycle, even when it is driven with all possible precaution, the fact remains that it offers very little protection for the driver. All it would take is to lose balance and just like what happened to my brother, the person driving it will end up bloody and bruised if he/she is lucky. More horrible accidents have occurred where the driver ends up dead.

I do not know how to ride a bicycle and even less a motorcycle. People might call me silly - I don't mind. But I will stand by my belief that compared to a car, a motorcycle is more unsafe has a bigger chance of getting its rider into an accident.
