My Fragrance Obsession

I have always loved perfumes and fragrances. From an early age of 6 or 7 years old, I often felt enveloped in a strange magical aura whenever I would caught a scent trail of my mum's perfume. When I was old enough to work, I made certain that I would be able to save some of the money I earn in order to buy a bottle of perfume. I remember my very first purchase was a vial of Opium and then it was followed by Poison. Those where the 70's and 80's fragrance  and they have a larger than life presence, which I love,

So from then on, I would buy a bottle, finish it and then get a new one or get the same one particularly if I like it a lot. I never thought of collecting, up until 2005, when I discovered that there were groups of perfume aficionados who collects perfumes and wear a different scent depending on the season or their mood. I was so fascinated and drawn to the photos they were posting of bottles that they own. At that time I only had bottle of Fahrenheit from Dior but come August of that same year {2005}, I started collecting purchased another bottle of Fahrenheit this time it's the vintage formulation and then it was followed by Poison and Joop Homme.

Before the end of 2005 I owned 6 bottles of perfume and by 2016 it was about 17, currently I have almost 30 bottles and still growing. At times I get a bit upset with myself because I often devote a lot of time researching and pondering on what fragrance to purchase, but it is already here, I am already obsessed with fragrance!

Gone are the days when I would simply spray and forget about what scent I am wearing. Now I pay more attention to how the fragrance develops and how long it lasts. I even learned some words fragheads (people who are obsessed with perfumes and colognes), such sillage, niche, and designer, note breakdown, dry down, and a lot more.

I do not know how long I'll be in the game. I have heard of fragheads who eventually get bored or simply just realize that this hobby is not very practical and so they stop and move on. And I have to admit sometimes it gets a bit confusing and time consuming just choosing what to wear because of some many choices. Before when I only owned one bottle at a given time, the decision was always easy to make.

But I enjoy being a fraghead, I enjoy using different fragrances  like spells one a wizard would cast for a particular occasion or purpose. I have also noticed that by using a different perfume every now and then prevents my nose from becoming anosmic. So whether I'll stop now or next year I guess only time will tell after all I am discovering that there are more fragrances that I haven't even tried particularly the exclusive or niche fragrances that are dubbed as works of art.

For now I am still in search of all those designer fragrances in my younger days that I wasn't able to try, and I will enjoy the journey with my fellow fragheads some of whom I have become good friends with.
