The Art of Coin Collecting

A lot of people nowadays wanted to Collect something, might it be from a hobby or just plain interest on something. I myself on the other hand, is fond of Collecting Coins, among others.

I have written this to encourage you to do same, not just so you can be a part of a certain group but to gain something of great value in the future.

In an interview with Mr. Rod Gillis, an Education Director for the American Numismatic Association, he says that, "If you are new to Coin collecting, I would like to spend a moment talking to you about, perhaps the most important decision that you're going to make in your collecting career, and that is, HOW TO COLLECT."

There really are a lot of people who are fond of collecting Coins, not just in the US, but all around the world. There are people who collects Coins from the places they visit, some are collecting Coins from the year of their birth, some are collecting Coins if they see a certain animal in there or if it is shiny or possess a certain unique color. People have their own personal reasons why they collect.

According to Mr. Gillis, "The two best reason to collect are by Type or by Set. When we say by Type, it is the to collect the finest example of a particular denomination of Coin. For example, someone wanted to collect different types of Half Dollar. By Set on the other hand, is to collect a particular Coin from all years and mints where the Coin was made. Collecting by Set is the most popular way.  However, by Set is probably the most expensive way to collect Coins. "

On my personal opinion, I would rather try to collect Coins which of High value for money. Meaning, you have to collect those Coins which are expensive because of its Intrinsic value (the amount which the Coin is made of such as Silver, Gold or any other expensive metal). Collect Coins that are Rare or hard to find, like in the Philippines, the 1907 One Peso coin. You'll never know how much your Coin will be worth thru time.

Happy collecting guys and happy coin hunting.

Cheerio!
