Bipolar Disorder in Relationships

Is my Wife or Husband Bipolar?

Bipolar spouses can be overwhelming. It is a growing issue because many men and women who suffer from the Bipolar Disorder have not been diagnosed and the behavior becomes an uncomfortable norm. The condition describes spontaneous and dramatic changes associated with behavioral moods. Those who suffer from it undergo chemical changes that increase their sensitivity to incidental emotions. According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, though the disorder is equally common in men and women, women experience more dramatic mood swings and radical episodes than men. The Treatment Advocacy Center reports that 51% of those that suffer from the disorder go untreated. The woman’s psyche is more vulnerable to more aggressive changes in emotional energy levels.  So men, here are some signs that your lady may be suffering from the Bipolar Disorder:

  • The attempt to hide sudden and obvious sadness that may last weeks with no apparent cause.
  • Trouble sleep or less sleeping.
  • Revisiting resolved problems.
  • Impulsive episodes of lashing out, yelling or acting irrationally.
  • Going from extreme happiness to extreme anger in a short period of time.
  • Other forms of radical emotional expression.
