NARS Summer 2016 “Under Cover” Collection: Swatches, Review, & Makeup Look

[Press samples.]

The NARS Summer 2016 “Under Cover” Collection is all about “sea and splendor.” The shades within the collection are bold, intense, and full of color. I have 3 of the items from the limited edition collection and I wanted to show you how I put them together to create the perfect look for hot summer days and nights.

The three items I will be using today from the Summer 2016 NARS “Under Cover” Collection are:

  • NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in “Liberation”
  • NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in “Deep End”
  • NARS Lip Cover in “Get Dirty”
NARS Lip Cover in “Get Dirty”

The NARS Lip Cover in “Get Dirty” is actually a brand new product that NARS introduced for Summer 2016. I really love the formula and I hope they make more shades for future seasonal and permanent collections. It’s like a liquid lipstick, but with a very lightweight, mousse-like texture. It doesn’t dry down completely matte but leaves a slight satin finish. These are extremely comfortable on the lips and aren’t drying at all. This shade will work universally on all skin tones and is a very flattering rosy nude.

For this eye makeup look, I used NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in “Deep End” all over my entire eyelid. The cool part about the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow formula is that you can use it with a dry brush or a wet brush, and the intensity will change. With a wet brush, the color is very metallic and shimmery. I, of course, think this shade is just beyond gorgeous, so I wanted maximum shimmer and foil. I used the darker shade in the NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in “Liberation” in the crease of my eye to add a pop of contrast to the turquoise blue on my eyelid. I also applied a tiny bit under my lower lashes.

Multi-tasking products are awesome. Don’t shy away from using a blush shade as an eyeshadow or vice versa.

The finished look is very “surf and sand” inspired. The turquoise blue really shimmers and shines, and the pop of bronze in the crease really contrasts the lid color. I added a cat-wing to the look to keep it playful.

So besides using the darker shade in the NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in “Liberation” in the crease of my eyes, I also used it for its intended purpose, which is as a cheek color. I ran my blush brush over both shades in the palette and applied it to the apples of my cheeks. The mix creates a really gorgeous peachy-bronze shade that is great for the summertime.

I really dig this look from top to bottom because it’s something different from my usual neutral makeup shades that I wear. The pops of color on my eyes, cheeks, and lips are exactly what Francois Nars had intended for his Summer 2016 collection.

The Summer 2016 NARS “Under Cover” Collection is limited edition and available at Sephora stores nationwide as well as NARS boutiques. You can also browse and purchase each of these items online here:

  • NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in “Liberation”
  • NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in “Deep End”
  • NARS Lip Cover in “Get Dirty”

There are some other really lovely shades in the collection that I recommend. I popped into my local Sephora and swatched them in person and they were very impressive. I especially am loving all of the new NARS Lip Cover shades because the formula and pigmentation is just so unique.
