Microsoft Philippines Hosts “Technology for Good” in Cebu

To share knowledge and provide a platform for learning that will benefit both business enterprises and non-profit organizations—this was the agenda of the recently concluded “Technology for Good” gathering hosted by Microsoft Philippines on April 14, 2016 in Cebu City.

It is actually the second of a two-pronged knowledge sharing event where Microsoft Philippines aims to help non-government organizations or NGOs “strengthen their organizations with the use of Microsoft technologies,” said Raul Cortez of Microsoft Philippines.

This second gathering was done in partnership with TechSoup which is a non-profit international outfit dedicated to helping connect NGOs with donors as well as helping them find opportunities specific to their causes and localities.

Topics Touched

The event in Cebu City touched a wide range of topics relevant to empowering non-profit organizations. It started off with “Technology Trends and Issues” which was discussed by Marlon Perilla of Central Visayas Network of NGOs. It was followed with “Social Media Marketing for Non-Profits” with Jed Adao of TechSoup Asia Pacific as speaker.

Several case studies were presented, like the CENVISNET case study on Moving Forward with Technology tackled by Aldwin Joseph Empaces, also of Central Visayas Network of NGOs. A case study on “Improving Productivity, Efficiency and Security with Microsoft Software” again by Jed Adao.

On Microsoft Topics

Aleandre Kwan and Raul Cortez of Microsoft Philippines shared insights on the local Microsoft company and on Productivity on Non-Profits, respectively. Product donations by Microsoft were later presented by Eufer Pasion, also of Microsoft Philippines.

Finally, one of the topics discussed before closing was “Accessing Discounts and Donations” presented by Jed Adao.

Upcoming Events

Moreover, Microsoft Philippines will be doing several “Deep Dive” sessions this month of April and provide add-on trainings the following month of May, according to Cortez. These sessions and trainings are hoped to help NGOs access resources and information and gain capacity to up their organizational strength to the next levels, he added.
