TIP #53 Entertaining: Having a party? Making cocktails? Here is what not to overlook…

Ice. Buy ice. It's the easiest thing to forget and we always assume we've got that covered, but making cocktails requires a lot of ice: Ice to shake and ice to fill the serving glasses; it's usually more than we think. Buy enough ice to make 25 more drinks than you think you'll serve, (figure an 8 pound bag should be enough for about 25 drinks). Important: Ice bags usually clump up and are difficult to use. Before you open the bag, drop the bag from about 1 foot off the ground 3-4 times on a hard surface, ideally your patio. This will break the ice into usable pieces.
