Music Review: Blue Moon Harem

Deep Into Blue is a newly released album by Blue Moon Harem, a Boston-based indie rock band. Here is a preview of three of their songs:

1. Lie (Deep Into The Blue)

Lie is a modern rock song with a touch of 80s rock/ metal and a crisp sound. It’s a type of song one would enjoy in a live concert with superb electric guitar work.

2. My Front Door (Deep Into The Blue)

My Front Door is a softer pop rock song. Like all their songs, it has a nice complexity to it. Many modern/pop rock songs nowadays are extremely simplistic, not so with this band’s work. The sound is harmonious which shows that the musicians are experienced players who work well together. Great instrumental work with matching lead vocals.

3. Lucky (Deep Into The Blue)

Lucky is an uplifting happy go lucky song with a soft finish. Once again, great guitar work. The song talks about the world from a child’s perspective and is suitable for adults and older kids.

Overall, great music with clean lyrics. Blue Moon Harem produce a blend of contemporary and classic rock, that is fresh and original. It’s the kind of music commonly used in film and TV.

About Blue Moon Harem

Blue Moon Harem had their beginnings with original members Jon Bix and Demetri Joannou, members of the popular mid-90s Boston band, Requiem.

Bix and Joannou collaborated on an album that received massive local airplay and was featured three times on Harvey Warfield’s famed Boston Music Showcase. Encouraged and engineered by producer Jim Seigel at The Outpost in Stoughton, MA, the duo experimented with looping and other instrumental technologies, releasing an album under the name Blue Moon Harem.

After years of extensive touring and constant performing, Bix and Joannou put together an album that was more focused on songcraft than technological wizardry while maintaining a rich, full sound. The result is Finland, a collection of highly personal songs, featuring the title track, a Top 20 Digital Radio Tracker National Rock Chart hit.

Rounding out Blue Moon Harem’s lineup are drummer Steve Hart, who previously worked with Aerosmith axeman Joe Perry, among others, and bassist Jose Pep Hernandez.

The band has recently completed their 3rd studio album, Deep Into Blue (Release Date is TBA) featuring the singles, “Lie” and “My Front Door.”
