Bloggers offer stories and tips from their everyday lives

One thing I’ve noticed about being an older adult is that you lose friends and relatives, and the older you get, the more often people your age pass away.

Last week, my former husband died. At the left is our wedding photo. Divorced in 1986, we were married for 23 years and had two daughters.

My daughter-in-law lost her dad two weeks ago. An era came to an end for the Sacramento farm family.

My blogging friends, older adults like me, have these stories and tips to share from their writing last week:

What older women need to do to be vital and active

If you do a search online and ask, “When is a woman considered to be old,” the answer that comes up is “73.” For those of us in that age group, that may seem rather young. What makes a woman over 60 appear to be much younger than someone else the same age? Rebecca Olkowski of BabyBoomster.com gives suggestions on what they may have stopped doing to keep themselves vital and active.

An exercise that’s easy on older joints

Diane Trolly of On the Border has been on a quest for fitness that has led her down many roads and through many incarnations. Trolly’s most recent was chosen, not for number of calories burned, but for least number of joints that hurt.

Don’t be one of these drivers

Having been driving almost 50 years now (Laurie Stone of Musings, Rants & Scribbles needs smelling salts to say that), she’s seen every kind of driver. And if Stone’s honest, she’s been every kind of driver. In fact, looking at the various roadsters today, Stone realizes how navigating over the decades has presented not only challenges, but some life lessons …

When the washing machine and internet took a break

Sometimes things don’t go right. They may be small things, annoying issues, but irritating nonetheless. Many of these minor problems are home appliances that suddenly malfunction. Meryl Baer of Beach Boomer Bulletin writes about two broken devices in this week’s post “Fifty Percent Success.”

How to make a Cappuccino inexpensively

Love a good cappuccino? So does Carol Cassara of Carol A. Cassara, Writer. She has an easy hack on her blog for a yummy cappuccino without using a big, expensive machine. Give it a try.

What happened on the way to the hut hike

When Jennifer Koshak of Unfold and Begin used to live in Connecticut, she and a few friends from high school used to hike together in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Read about the time Koshak forgot her hiking boots for one of these trips.

What’s a fact?

Tom Sightings from Sightings Over Sixty reports that his brother-in-law insists that when men get together their conversation focuses on facts. That made Sightings laugh, because we all know a lot of the "facts" we talk about are not really facts -- they're rumors, misremembered information, statements made by biased sources, or downright myths or old-wives' tales. You don’t think so? Check out the “facts” in this week’s post “True or Not True.”
