The Rights of Same-Sex Couples

Grover's Corners: When the whole world seems to be in chaos:

"Without a lawyer and a lot of money, gay and lesbian couples live in a very precarious situation where money, hospital rights, housing, children, and many other things are concerned. Even with a lawyer and a lot of money, gay and lesbian couples are not fully guaranteed the rights heterosexual couples take for granted by a simple marriage license. Even if these gay and lesbian couples have been together for decades, things are still on shaky ground, depending upon family, the state in which they live, and the courts.

What exactly is motivating these spiritual leaders to work their hardest to make sure that loving, faithful, committed, stable, same-sex couples are not given the same rights as their heterosexual counterparts? Everyone knows that intimate relationships are challenging, even with the full support of society [look at the divorce rate among heterosexuals and try to tell me that there is not something wrong with the state of marriage. . .and don't try to blame this on the queer community!]. Why wouldn't they work their hardest at making sure that GLBT couples have ways to keep their relationships strong?"
