Eco Friendly Halloween
It’s almost here! Orange, Red, and Yellow leaves! Cool-weather and warm hoodies. FALL! And my favorite holiday… HALLOWEEN!!!
Halloween may be a time for scares, and nothing is more scary than environmental destruction, but that’s scary in a bad way. Celebrate the right way this year with an eco-friendly Halloween!
Don't Buy More - Buy Better
Too many Halloween decorations are made from cheap plastic and that are as ugly as they are disposable. Consumers subconsciously know that these decorations are ugly, which is why they buy more each year because the purchases feel cheap and therefore unsatisfactory. Producers couldn’t care less, because they are making money each year on cheap plastic crap that is easily mass-produced.
If a decoration breaks while packing or unpacking it from the attic, it’s no big deal. Just throw it in the trash, head to the store, and buy more cheap plastic crap.
Don't Decorate With Cheap Plastic Crap
Unfortunately, it IS a big deal. Type “cheap plastic crap,” in a Google search and see what pops up. I found this excellent website called, SciMoms, and this is what they had to say about cheap plastic crap.
“A recent study estimates that we’ve created 8300 million tons of plastic since its manufacturing came into existence. Sadly, only 9% of this has been recycled, while 79% of it has ended up in landfills or has been dumped in the natural environment. None of these materials are biodegradable, leading to contamination of waters and soils, and a negative impact on marine life. Additionally, making plastics requires petroleum and a lot of energy, so the carbon footprint of these materials is significant.”
The article also provides tips to help your kids cope with cheap plastic crap withdrawals. In the experience of the SciMom team, kids generally enjoy being informed and helping you make the planet a cleaner place!

Horror Candles
If you want to decorate for an eco-friendly Halloween right, you’ve got to have spine-chilling light.
Spinal Cord Candle by The Blackened Teeth
This creepy spinal cord candle by The Blackened Teeth is handmade from a natural wax blend and comes in 3 colors: ivory, black, and grey. Unlike Halloween candles from Walmart or the dollar store that smell like broken, dirty Crayons at a preschool, these candles are scented with delectable natural fragrances! Check them out!
Skull Head Mountain by ChansChatter
Blow the dust off your favorite scary book, gather your guests, and surprise them mid-story with the blood that rains down upon the Skull Head Mountain Candle.
This handmade candle by ChansChatter is crafted from natural wax.
The Skull Head Mountain Candle comes in 3 colors, but if you want the one that bleeds, choose the “red” option at checkout.
Are you worried it may smell as deadly as it looks? Don’t be! Prepare your nostrils to be pleased with over 40 different scents to choose from like Japan Cherry Blossom, Fresh Coffee, Black Amber Plum, and Cashmere Musk! Wow. That’s a lot of sniffs. All of the fragrances are phthalate-free and adhere to the RIFM and IFRA standards for safety and purity.
This eco-friendly Halloween smells amazing!
Spooky Stained Glass
Compared to other materials like plastic, Glass is eco-friendly, because it is made out of limestone, sand, and soda ash, which are all-natural and abundant materials.
When I was a kid, stained glass decorations were popular. Let’s bring them back!
I’ve scoured the Etsy Earth to find the best stained glass art out there, and my favorite company is Croft Glass because their designs are the most beautiful and they look strong too. Glass is fragile by nature. However, Croft Glass sticks with designs that are just as sturdy as they are beautiful.
