New York Bus Driver Fired For Mistakenly Drinking Alcohol While Collecting Kids

Amal Hanna, a school bus driver based in New York, was recently dismissed from her position after being discovered consuming a White Claw, an alcoholic seltzer, while transporting students home from school on a Wednesday, as per various reports.

Hanna, currently under cancer treatment involving chemotherapy, expressed to the police that she wasn’t aware of the alcoholic content in the flavored seltzer. She, a resident of Long Island, explained that she hastily picked up the beverage while leaving her house that morning, mistaking it for a non-alcoholic seltzer that her roommate had stored in the refrigerator.

Hanna, who has abstained from alcohol due to her ongoing chemotherapy, articulated that the treatment has impacted her taste, preventing her from identifying the alcohol within the seltzer.

After serving for 15 years, Hanna was dismissed from her role at WE Transport Inc., a school bus company located in Long Island, subsequent to the incident.

The moment the alcoholic seltzer can was identified in the driver’s cup holder on the bus, Hanna was instantly asked to leave the vehicle, with another driver completing the student drop-offs.

The Suffolk County police, who chose not to press charges, expressed belief in Hanna’s assertion that she was unaware of the beverage containing alcohol.

Currently unemployed, Hanna expressed her anxiety about managing the financial aspects of her cancer treatment.

In a tearful interaction, she communicated to the news outlet, “I’m terrified of being homeless owing to a mistake.”
