In a desperate attempt to evade the police, a masked individual struck an NYPD Officer with a sucker punch in Harlem on Thursday. However, his escape was short-lived as he was quickly apprehended again.

Footage capturing the incident displayed the moment a repeat offender, perched on a Citi Bike, delivered a forceful blow to an NYPD officer’s face while at the crosswalk of Amsterdam Avenue and West 147th Street, shortly after 4 p.m.

The man responsible for the attack, identified as 45-year-old Evan Guerrero from Harlem, appeared to be complying with two officers initially. His hands were placed behind his head as he was stopped in relation to a potential ongoing crime.

Guerrero, wearing a balaclava, glanced over his shoulder before unexpectedly striking the male officer’s face. Subsequently, he fled down West 147th Street, managing to reach only the sidewalk before being intercepted.

The two officers swiftly apprehended Guerrero, pulling him to the ground in front of a nearby corner store, as captured in the video.

Despite his efforts to escape, even losing a shoe in the process, Guerrero was eventually brought under control with the assistance of seven additional officers who arrived as reinforcements.

The officer who was punched, whose identity remains undisclosed, was seen wiping his face where the blow had landed, checking for signs of injury while restraining his assailant.

Police noted that the officer suffered from “pain, bruising, and a fracture” as a result of the attack.

Evan Guerrero faced charges of assaulting a police officer. Upon searching his backpack, officers discovered “graffiti instruments” before his arrest, according to law enforcement sources.

The NYPD revealed that Guerrero had amassed eight prior arrests, which encompassed offenses such as graffiti-related activities, possession of graffiti tools, criminal mischief, and bail jumping.
