The current trend of Clean Girl makeup was inspired by Hailey Bieber, and Kendall Jenner’s ‘Model Off Duty’ look.

This off-duty look uses little to no makeup and features tied-back hair. The effortless look is ‘clean and tidy’ with flawless skin and perfectly styled hair.

However, many creators on TikTok have highlighted that the Clean Girl makeup trend was historically worn by women of colour, when the aesthetic centred on minimal makeup, slick-backed hair, and gold hoops.

How to do Clean Girl makeup

This minimal makeup look can be achieved with very few products.

1. Slick back your hair: Using a small amount of hair gel, create a slick ponytail. Ideally a low pony because it represents minimal effort.
2. Skin prep: Looking clean and fresh requires plump and hydrated skin. Use a serum, followed by a moisturiser or primer to prep your skin. Finally finish with SPF and let the products all sink in.
