Now, let’s get into these feel-good fall self-care ideas.
1. Make a cozy warm drink
Hot chocolate, pumpkin spice latte, hot apple cider, a cup of tea – make whatever makes you feel like you’re getting a warm hug from the inside.
2. Go on a fall hike
Take in the scenery of the changing colours, the fall foliage and breath in the fresh, crisp air.
3. Go apple picking
Getting out to the apple orchard is so enjoyable.
You can of course pick your favourite apples, but also get close to nature, appreciate the scenery, pick up something sweet in the local farm store and enjoy the fresh crisp air.
4. Embrace Hygge
Light those candles, curl up in a soft blanket and read a book.
To learn more about the Danish tradition of Hygge check out this book: The Little Book of Hygge, which is also the perfect coffee table book for fall.
5. Do some fall baking
Not only is baking delicious, but it also fills the house with apple crisp, cranberry muffins, pumpkin bread – whatever gives you that feeling of fall comfort.
6. Make Soup
Nourish your body with fall soups – butternut squash, sweet potato or minestrone. Make a big batch so you can freeze some so you have a ‘free’ meal for another day.
7. Walk
Spend time walking as much as possible before it gets too cold.
Take a morning walk around the block, explore your neighbourhood and town or discover a new place.
8. Outside Morning Coffee/Tea
While there is still light before work, enjoy your morning caffeine outside so you can wake up with the sun, fresh air and birdsong.
9. Practice Gratitude
There are so many ways you can practice gratitude in the autumn and all year long. When it comes to being grateful the key is to appreciate the little things.
Here are some of my favourite ways:
- Make a gratitude list: Literally write down everything you are thankful for. Here is my list to give you an idea.
- Start a gratitude journal – check out my gratitude journal with 52 thoughtful writing prompts.
- Take my 30 days of gratitude challenge!
10. Watch the sunset
Fall sunsets are breathtaking, so make a point of seeing what time the sun is setting and get outside to enjoy it.
If you have time to go to a park or to a lake (depending on where you live), you can really take in the sunset. Otherwise, just get outside.
11. Start a New Hobby
As we inch closer to cooler temperatures and spend a little more time indoors it’s the perfect time to start a new hobby – or pick up an old one.
Start by making a list of the things you’d like to try and just pick one.
12. Start a Journal
Whether you choose a lined journal or journal with prompts, get into the habit of journaling.
There are so many things you can express in your journal…
- Record what you do each day
- Release stressful thoughts
- Use it as a thought download
- Make to-do lists
- Sketch or doodle
- Track your habits
Think about how a journal can support you right now and focus on that.
13. Escape With A Good Book
There’s something about opening the pages of a new book that feels super cozy and of course the autumn is all about being cozy.
So grab a new book or audiobook that you can escape to and enjoy.
14. Have A Bubble Bath
The cooler nights are perfect for a good soak in the tub. Grab your fave bubble bath or essential oils, light some candles and enjoy.
15. Organize Your Closet
With the change of seasons comes a change of clothes.
Get in your closet and take out all of your summer clothes and before you pack away, decide if there’s anything you want to donate.
Next you can add in your fall clothes – and again, if there’s anything that doesn’t spark joy, donate it.
16. Have a Self Care Sunday
Create some time every week for Sunday self care – whether you have 15 minutes or a couple of hours there are many things you can do to feel good.
17. Take an afternoon nap
If you can do it on the weekend, perfect!
If you can make sure your spouse is baking or making a delicious meal for you to wake up to – even better! We can all dream right?!
18. Take a scenic drive in the countryside
If you live in the city taking a long, slow drive in the countryside can feel oh so good.
Look at the landscape, stop my a roadside market, and roll the windows down to smell the clean scent that only the country can provide.
19. Visit a pumpkin patch
So many parents do this with their little ones, but it’s also fun to do on your own, with friends or your partner.
Make sure to pick up some of those gnarly looking pumpkins too!
20. Diffuse Some Fall Essential Oils
I absolutely love doing this and the best part is you can bring the feeling of autumn in call day long.
I love Simply Earth essential oils – not only because their oils are super high quality, but also they are affordable and most importantly you do not have to ‘join’ any program.
They have a delicious Autumn Air blend that includes lemon, orange, balsam fir, ho wood, and cassia essential oils.
21. Create a Holiday Bucket List
To prepare for the holiday season make a bucket list or everything you’d like to do.
You can create a family bucket list, couples bucket list or a list for yourself.
22. Have a Bonfire
Get bundled up, and bring some marshmallows, a hot drink and some relaxing music along for the fun.
23. Try Some Adult Colouring
If you don’t have an adult colouring book yet, now is the time. No matter what you’re colouring that feeling of nostalgia can’t be beat.
My favourite books are from Johanna Basford. Her hand drawn pen and ink artwork stands far apart than anything else out there.
24. Ask For Help
If you feel like you have no idea how you can create time for self-care it’s time to ask for help.
- Ask your kids and spouse for help around the house.
- If you’re putting in too many hours at work, ask your boss if you can get some assistance.
- You can even ask a friend or parent for help when possible.
25. Treat Yourself To Fall Flowers
Chrysanthemums (mums) are a clear sign of fall where I live and they are a pleasure to have in the house or to plant in the garden.
If you plant in the garden they’ll come up every year reminding you of the beauty of autumn.
26. Go On A Date With Yourself
Who says you have to wait for someone else to have a good time?
Go on a date with yourself instead!
Walk to a local coffee shop and do a little people watching, go to a museum, check out a new neighbourhood, go to a movie.
27. Take A Long Walk In The Park
We can’t all get out to go hiking so spend some time in the park instead.
You can enjoy the fall leaves, sunshine and fresh air which feels truly revitalizing.
28. Have a No Screen Day
This is your opportunity to get creative – play a board game, do a puzzle, make some fall crafts, bake, listen to music, create a photo book.
Basically use this time to do all the things you put off when you’re normally bingeing TV and scrolling on social media.
29. Read Some Gratitude Quotes
Spend some time reading some inspiring feel good quotes to help you celebrate the season.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
– Oprah Winfrey

One pot meals are so easy, cozy and fall is the season to make them!
Whether you make chili, a stew or another one pot dish – attempt to make it ahead on the weekend to make your week easier.
31. Start a New Habit To Support Your Mental Health
First, think about what you need right now.
What could be easier for you? Then think about a habit you’d like to begin.
It could be:
- Practicing saying no
- Trying some positive affirmations
- Learn something new
- Create good sleep habits

32. Track Your Mood
A truly supportive way to practice self care is to track your mood so you can connect the dots between your mood and activities throughout the day.
This will enable you to understand you triggers and make impactful changes.

33. Check Out a Local Farmer’s Market
The fall is abundant with so many delicious fruit and veggies so stock up on apples, pears, tomatoes, squash, onions, potatoes, cabbage, kale, etc.
Fall is also the perfect time to go to a farmer’s market as prices tend to be a little more affordable.
34. Create a Fall Playlist
Seek out those moody, feel-good tunes, add in some old favourites and make an epic fall playlist you can enjoy while you work, go for walks or when driving in the car.
35. Add some spice to your breakfast
Perfect if you love oatmeal. In addition to cinnamon add a little ground ginger, clove or nutmeg for that fall flavour.
Add some pear or crisp apple on top and you’ll have the quintessential fall breakfast.
36. Create a Vision Board
Use this board to focus on what you’d like to accomplish and bring into your life this fall and winter season and into the new year.
37. Pick up a Magazine
When was the last time you did this?
Give it a try and you’ll see how relaxing it can be to turn the pages while immersing yourself in a good article or the latest home decor trend.
38. Go on a Coffee Date
Invite a friend out for a coffee so you can get together and have a good chat.
Socializing is also a big part of self care so this simple activity can be rewarding and fun.
39. Create A New Evening Routine
As I’ve mentioned earlier, fall is about that cozy feeling and your evening routine should be too.
Looking for new ways to unwind at night can improve your sleep and improve your morning too.
40. Slow Down
Give yourself permission to slow things down. This will help you create more time for self-care, reflection and appreciating being in the present moment.
41. Check-in With Yourself
As we move into a new season now is a great time to check in with yourself and do a little self-reflection on how things are going. A great way to do this is with these self-care questions.
42. Do Something Nostalgic
There’s something about the cooler fall air that brings me back to my childhood, what about you?
If you too want to bring on some nostalgic feelings you can…
- Listen to some old music from your teens
- Call up an old friend and reminisce
- Look through old photos
- Read some old letters
- Visit an old stomping ground
43. Declutter Your Closet
Make space for your fall clothes by going through your summer wardrobe and getting rid of anything you no longer like or didn’t wear in the summer.
You can donate items or put them away until next year.
44. Give Meditation A Try
Starting with a body scan meditation is perfect for beginners.
A body scan meditation is a mindfulness exercise where you focus your attention on different parts of your body – essentially scanning your body as the name suggests.
This is greatly beneficial to reduce stress and help you be present in the current moment.
Check out this beginner video to get started…
45. Eat Some Healthy Season Foods
Autumn is so abundant with delicious treats from mother nature.
See what you can find locally and up your fruit and veg…squash, apples, carrots, potatoes, onions, beets, brussel sprouts, pumpkin, etc.
Final Thoughts:
The fall months are short, so make the most of them with these autumn self-care activities that I hope you love.
Remember this: The important thing here is to practice self-care of any kind. So use these ideas or create your own – do whatever fills you up and nourishes your mind, body and soul.
Enjoy!
