Fun Things to Do At Night With Friends

Being alone every night can get old. If you’re looking for something fun to do with friends, here are some ideas.

1) Have A Themed Movie Night

What’s more fun than sharing a favorite movie and snacks with your best friends? If you want to make things even more enjoyable, host a themed movie night.

To do this, choose a movie genre, decade, or actor/actress ahead of time. Then, have everyone dress up and bring snacks that correspond with the theme.

For example, if you’re watching a ’90s movie, bring some childhood snacks like Oreos, Tang, and Pop Rocks.

On the other hand, if you’re going for a more sophisticated theme, like French movies from the ’60s, you could make Croque Monsieurs and fancy cocktails.

2) Host A Game Night

Friends + Fun Games + Snacks = a special evening.

To make things more interesting, put a twist on classic games and play them in different ways.

For example, you could play:

  • Candyland with actual candy instead of cards
  • Life but with wacky rules like everyone has to hop on one foot during their turn
  • Never Have I Ever but with embarrassing dares instead of questions

Games don’t always have to be played by the rules. So get creative and have fun together.

3) Put Together A Scavenger Hunt

Put together a list of items you and your friends can find as you stroll through your neighborhood.

Include a few easy-to-find items, like a leaf or a rock, and some that are more challenging. For example, you might include a specific make and model of a car or a particular type of flower.

To spice things up, create a list of dares instead of items. For example, your dare could be to take a picture with a stranger or eat a weird food item you’ve never tried before.

4) Have A Virtual Book Club

Social distancing is the new norm in many places, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun with your friends.

You can host a virtual Book club. First, agree on a book to read. Then, have everyone work through a chapter each week.

When you gather for your video chat, you can discuss what you read and ask each other questions.

5) Do A Themed Photoshoot

Get your friends together for a themed photoshoot.

Come up with a list of ideas ahead of time, and then let everyone choose their favorite.

Some examples include:

  • ’90s grunge
  • beach party
  • formalwear
  • fairy tale

Depending on your budget, you can hire a photographer or DIY. Either way, be sure you get lots of fun pics so you’ll never forget your evening.

6) Have A Taste Testing Party

Invite your friends over for a fun night of taste testing. You can try different foods or drinks to see which ones you like best.

To make things more organized, put everything into categories ahead of time.

For example, you could have a category for savory snacks, sweet snacks, and drinks. Then everyone can decide what to bring that fits into those categories.

When it’s time to taste test, give each item a score from 1-10. You’ll see which snacks were the crowd favorites at the night’s end.

7) Do An Art Project Together

Art with friends is a great way to spend an evening. First, pick a project you can do in one night. Then, have everyone gather their supplies and get to work.

After the event, you’ll have some great memories and new artwork for your homes.

8) Have a Bonfire Night

Invite your friends over for a bonfire – which is perfect for any time of year – yes, even in the winter. Roast marshmallows, play some music, and enjoy watching the fire and having a laugh.

If you’re feeling silly, wear a costume, turn the lights down low, or go outside and dance in the dark.

11) Rearrange Your Furniture

Is your bedroom feeling a little drab? Try rearranging your furniture to give the space a fresh new look.

Not only will this help you pass the time, but you might end up loving your new layout so much that you decide to keep it that way.

If you aren’t feeling up to moving the furniture around the room, you can draw a picture of the space and cut out paper furniture to rearrange.

12) Go To An Art Gallery

Are there any exhibits opening soon at your local art museum? Visiting one can be a fun way to curb your boredom. However, that’s not your only option. You can also visit a gallery online if you live in the middle of nowhere or just don’t feel like leaving the house.

Many museums have virtual tours of their most popular exhibits that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.

13) Do A DIY Project

Have you been meaning to start a home improvement project but never seem to have the time? Getting started on it now is a good use of your free time.

You could do something as simple as painting a piece of furniture or hanging some new curtains.

Or, you could start working on that kitchen remodel you’ve been dreaming of.

14) Create A Vision Board

A vision board is a collection of images, quotes, and other items representing your goals and dreams.

Putting one together can be a fun way to get in touch with what you want out of life – and it’s a great way to kill time on a boring night at home.

To make your vision board, you’ll need a few supplies:

  • A large piece of poster board or cardboard
  • scissors
  • glue or tape
  • old magazines, newspapers, and printed-out pictures from the internet

Once you have your supplies, spend some time looking through the magazines and finding images that inspire you. Then, start cutting them out and arranging them on your poster board.

15) Use An Adult Coloring Book

Coloring books aren’t just for kids. Adult coloring books are becoming increasingly popular for relaxing and de-stressing. They’re a great option for unwinding after a long day.

There are so many beautiful adult coloring books out there, so if you haven’t tried it yet, this is a great way to get creative with a relaxing activity.

I personally love any Johanna Basford book – especially The Secret Garden.

Mental Health Activities To Try At Night

Your mental health matters. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, try one of these calming activities to help you relax.

16) Do Some Relaxing Stretches

Take a break from whatever you’re doing and do some gentle stretches. This can help ease any tension in your body and clear your mind.

Look for simple stretching routines online to follow. You could even try a yoga class if you’re feeling extra zen.

17) Write In A Journal

Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts and feelings out. You can write about anything on your mind, whether big or small. If you need help getting started, here are some self-care journal prompts.

20) Visualize A calming Scene

Close your eyes and picture yourself in a peaceful, serene setting.

Maybe you’re on a beach surrounded by blue water and soft sand. Or in a forest, surrounded by tall trees and the sounds of birds chirping.

Allow yourself to feel like you’re in this place. Ask yourself what you see, smell, and hear. This exercise can help you feel calmer and more relaxed.

21) Play With A Stress Ball

If you’re feeling especially tense, try squishing a stress ball. This can help release some built-up tension and make you feel calmer.

22) Make A Gratitude List

It’s easy to focus on the negative when you’re feeling down, but practicing gratitude can help shift your perspective and make you feel more optimistic.

Think about all the things in your life that you’re thankful for. Maybe you’re grateful for your health, your Family, your job, or your home.

Whatever it is, write it down and try to really feel gratitude for your favorite things in life.

Use this opportunity to go through your things and eliminate anything you don’t need. Then, you can donate these items to a local charity or sell them online.

25) Organize Your Desk

Is your desk cluttered and chaotic? Take some time to go through everything and put it in its proper place.

You’ll feel so much better when your space is clean and organized.

26) Master Your Evening Routine

Part of being productive is learning how to manage your time effectively. One way to do this is by creating an evening routine that works for you.

Think about the things you need to do every night before bed.

For example, maybe you need to shower, brush your teeth, and put on your PJs. Or perhaps you need to pack your lunch and set out your clothes.

Whatever it is, list the things you need to do and try to stick to it to get everything done. Ending your day well helps tomorrow get off to a good start.

27) Batch Cook

Try batch cooking if you’re always rushing to make dinner after work.

You can prepare anything from simple snacks to full-blown dinners. Stick to family favorites, or try a new recipe.

No matter what you make, cook everything in advance and store it in containers in your fridge. Then, all you have to do is reheat it.

For inspiration check out my friend Lisa’s annual meal prep plan – making it easy and fun to get organized for family meals.

28) Make A To-Do List For The Next Day

One of the best ways to be productive is to plan.

Before you go to bed, take a few minutes to make a to-do list for the next day. This way, you’ll know exactly what you need to get done, so you can hit the ground running in the morning.

Be sure to keep your list realistic. Don’t forget to add any appointments or deadlines for the day.

29) Start A Blog

Evenings are the perfect time to try one of these pursuits:

You’ll want to pick something that is a good fit for your skills and talents to be successful.

Not every night needs to be productive. Sometimes, it’s important just to relax and unwind.

Here are great things to do at night when you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed:

There’s nothing like a hot bath to relax your muscles and ease your mind. Add in some soothing aromatherapy or luxurious face masks, and you’ll feel refreshed in no time.

33) Read A Book

If you’re looking for something calming to do, try reading a good book.

Make sure to choose something enjoyable and light-hearted. You don’t want to get bogged down in a heavy book when trying to relax.

34) Watch A Movie

Curl up on the couch with some popcorn and enjoy a good movie. Again, try to pick something fun and easy to watch. Save the drama for another time.

35) Try Self Massage

You can try a video like this below…

Or treat yourself to a foot massager instead. I use this heated foot massager and absolutely love it!

36) Do Some Yoga Or Meditation

Yoga and meditation are both excellent ways to relax your mind and body. If you’re new to yoga, plenty of beginner-friendly tutorials are online.

Meditation is something anyone can do, regardless of experience. Find a quiet place to sit or lie down, close your eyes, and focus on your breath.

37) Enjoy A Cup Of Tea

A spot of tea is the perfect way to relax in the evening. There are so many different types of tea to choose from, so you can find one perfect for you.

If you want something a little fancier, try making a pot of matcha. It’s a type of green tea that’s becoming increasingly popular.

38) Have A Snack

Sometimes, all you need to cheer yourself up is a tasty snack. So make something you’re craving, or try out a new recipe.

Just be careful not to overdo it – overeating late at night can lead to indigestion.

39) Take A Walk

Fresh air can work wonders for your mood.

If the weather is nice, go for a walk around your neighborhood. If it’s not, walk around inside a mall or another indoor location. Even taking a stroll on a treadmill can help.

There’s something for everyone: board games, video games, and card games. So enjoy some friendly competition and quality time together.

42) Make Smores In Your Microwave

Smores are a classic treat, and the best part is that you don’t need a campfire to make them.

All you need is a microwave and some graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.

You’ll put the chocolate and marshmallow between two crackers, then microwave them for about 10-15 seconds. Keep an eye on them, as they can burn easily.

43) Build A Puzzle

Puzzles are a lot of fun to work on as a family. Depending on your skill level, they can be as tricky or simple as you want.

Pizza is always a good idea, especially when you get to make it yourself. You can use store-bought dough or make your own.

Then, let everyone choose their toppings before you bake them.

This is a classic childhood activity that never gets old. First, gather up some blankets and pillows, then get creative.

If your kids want, they might try sleeping in their fort overnight. It’ll be like camping in the living room.

46) Do A Science Experiment

Science experiments are always a hit with kids and can be pretty educational, too.

You can find some easy ones online or make up your own. Just use items you have around the house, so you don’t have to go out and buy anything.

47) Put On A Talent Show

Get everyone involved in a talent show. After a bit of time to plan, you can take turns performing. You might be surprised at the hidden talents of your loved ones.

This is an excellent activity for rainy nights when you can’t go outside.

48) Have A Staring Contest

You might think this sounds silly, but it can actually be pretty challenging (and fun). See how long you can go without blinking or laughing. The first person to give in loses.

49) Have A Dance Party

Pump up the music, pull back the furniture, and dance! This is so much fun and everyone in the family can get involved.

Fun Date Night Ideas

You don’t have to leave the house to have a special (and romantic) night together. Here are some of the best things to do with your partner.

50) Make A Romantic Dinner

Light some candles, put on some soft music, and enjoy a delicious meal together. You could make it extra special by cooking your partner’s favorite dish.

51) Give Each Other Massages

What could be more relaxing than a massage? Take turns giving each other massages, and don’t forget the scented candles.

You’ll want to ensure you have oil on hand to keep from chafing. You can find massage oils at most stores, or you can even make your own.

52) Write Little Love Notes To Each Other

Express your love in a handwritten letter. You could also jot down some of your favorite memories together. Then, exchange them and take a trip down memory lane.

53) Play Truth Or Dare

This classic game is a great way to get to know your partner better. You can make things as naughty or innocent as you want.

54) Do A Couples Scavenger Hunt

Get creative with this one. Hide clues around your house and see if your partner can find them all. The prize could be something simple, like a kiss or a hug.

55) Have A Pillow Fight

Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that are the most fun. See who can hit the other person with a pillow most often in one minute. Then, switch roles and do it again.

This is a great way to get close to your partner…literally. You’ll both be twisted up in knots before you know it. And of course, it can lead to other things

57) Read A Book Aloud

It’s the perfect way to unwind after a long day. You can take turns picking the book you read, so you’re sure to both enjoy the time.

58) Go On A Virtual Vacation

If you can’t go on vacation, you can always pretend. Do a little research and pick a place you’d both love to visit.

Then, watch documentaries or look at pictures online to get a taste of the culture. You could even make some traditional dishes from the country you’re “visiting.”

59) Take Online Relationship Quizzes

These can be a fun way to see how compatible you are with your partner. You might be surprised by the results. Just make sure you don’t take them too seriously.

Pick a series of movies you remember fondly from childhood, and have a marathon. Making popcorn is a good thing to do before you hit the sheets.

63) Create A Bucket List

You can dream from the comfort of your bed. Think of all the things you want to do in your lifetime. Then, write them down on your bucket list. Finally, start planning how you’re going to make them happen in the future.

We all know how important it is to stay in touch with friends and extended family members. However, life gets busy, and we don’t always have time to talk on the phone or meet up for coffee.

That’s where handwritten letters come in.

You can take some time to write a letter to a friend, letting them know you’re thinking of them and catching up on your life.

They’ll appreciate the gesture, and you’ll have a good reason to flex your creative muscles.

65) Tidy Your Space

For some, this may not feel like fun, but whether you love tidying up or not, your bedroom will feel so much better once you do. You’ll be able to find things easier, which is a huge time saver and stress reliever.
