Homemade Mixed Berry Jam without pectin is the best jam you can make at home with abundant amount of Berries added and low sugar in it. This is also known as Bumbleberry jam. This delicious jam can be made at home within 30 minutes. Homemade mixed berry jam is a healthy alternative for kids if they love berries. This jam can also be stored for up to 2 weeks in refrigerator and can be used to make other berry recipes like Bumbleberry Ice-cream or cake or milkshake.

Homemade Berries Jam without Pectin

While Bumbleberry is not a real berry, it is mostly a combination of berries including strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. I have used strawberries and blueberries in making this delicious mixed berries jam. The berries are known to have pectin in them naturally, so there is no pectin added to this recipe. Adding lime juice helps from not crystallizing the jam.

Honestly, after trying this delicious jam made at home I stopped buying the store-brought jam. They make the best PBJ using my homemade peanut butter. This delicious homemade berries jam can be used in pancakes, cake icing, berries ice-cream or you can serve this jam with bread, chapati, flatbread or pastries.

What you need to make homemade mixed berry jam?

To make this delicious jam, all you need is:

  • Strawberries – A bunch of fresh strawberries finely chopped. I have used half pound of strawberries to make a jar of jam.
  • Blueberries – A handful of blueberries is used in this recipe. You can change the proportions of the berries.
  • Sugar – Half cup of sugar is added to make this jam. Naturally sweetened berries makes it delicious with low added sugar.
  • Lemon juice – A tablespoon of lemon juice is added to avoid crystallization of the jam. Lemon also acts as a natural pectin.

Instructions to make homemade berries jam

This simple recipe can be done in 30 minutes. All you need to do is follow this simple instructions:

  1. Finely chop the berries.
  2. Add the berries and sugar in a thick bottomed pot.
  3. Add a tbsp of lemon juice to avoid crystallization and allow it to boil.
  4. Mix the berries and sugar well and let it cook well for up to 10 minutes.
  5. You can mash the berries or allow a few chunks. The boiling berries releases pectin.
  6. The berries cook well and thickens up to a jam consistency.
  7. Transfer it to a glass jar and allow it to cool down and set for up to 24 hours.
  8. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

  • Do not over cook the jam. It makes it bitter.
  • Alternately, you can use frozen berries to make this jam.
  • You can change the proportions of the berries that will reflect in taste and color of the jam.
  • This mixed berries jam can be stored in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Or frozen for up to a month.
  • Try not to soak up the berries for long as they absorb the moisture. I prefer drying the berries before making the jam.
  • Boiling jam releases pectin. So, let the jam cook well and boil for a few minutes.
  • You can choose to mash the fruit or allow smaller chunks.
