Pet Plate Dog Food Review: Ingredients and Health Analysis (2023)

Pet Plate is a fresh Dog Food subscription that claims to provide human-grade food to picky pups. They leaped into popularity when their founder Renaldo Webb was featured on the business reality show Shark Tank. Since then, Pet Plate has grown to serve more than 15,000,000 meals! Hearing all of this hoopla, we decided to try it ourselves and provide our full Pet Plate dog food review.

Overview of Pet Plate

When their founder Renaldo learned how mass-market pet food and dry dog food was made, he decided to do something better. Pet Plate’s mission is to provide 100% human-grade food for your dog.

Their recipes are created by Dr. Renee Streeter, a veterinary nutritionist that specializes in creating perfectly balanced meals that any dog would love.

When you first sign up, you’ll go through a few questions, so they can learn more about your dog. They’ll ask you your pup’s name followed by its age, breed, weight and activity level.

After all that, they’ll recommend a product and plan that is best for you and your friendly furball. They offer a full meal plan as well as a topper plan for those that need just a little diet help.

Our PetPlate Dog Food Review

I love how personalized the meal plans are. Most subscription plans leave it up to the buyer to decide how much they need. Pet Plate takes that decision off your back, and gives you the right number of calories that your specific pup needs.

It surprised me that the food came frozen. They ship it with dry ice, and the shipments have always been on-time.

The entrees come in four main flavors:

  • Barkin’ Beef
  • Chompin’ Chicken
  • Tail Waggin’ Turkey
  • Lip Lickin’ Lamb

They also offer Power Packed Pork and Lean & Mean Venison flavors that need a little extra support in their diet. Rumor is that they are working on a salmon flavor as well.

My dog Moose gobbled up all of the entrees I fed him, but he loves the taste of the Barkin’ Beef the most. He also seemed to love the Chicken Apple Sausage Bites. The bag I bought was gone within just a couple of days.

The thing I like the most about Pet Plate is the convenience. All of the meals come in pre-portioned containers, so there’s no measuring or guessing needed. You just have to remember to defrost the food before you need it.

PetPlate does cost more than standard dog food, but it’s no more expensive than a bag of Funyuns per day. For me, it’s worth the extra couple bucks to buy quality dog food for my little buddies.

Pet Plate Dog Food Reviews: What Customers Are Saying

As of writing, Pet Plate is not available on Amazon, but the website contains hundreds of positive reviews from verified customers. Here are a couple of those:

I’ve got a picky puppy. Very. But she picked PetPlate. We started as a topper and ever since then, we have never gone a meal not eaten in one setting. For 8 years she was a “grazer” and I would cook food for her every Sunday. The form factor in the tubs works really well too. We usually get three to four days per tub. Huge savings in time and cost when you consider how much I was investing each week. Plus the preparation process (typically heat up in microwave for 22 seconds) is super simple. Seems like Chomping Chicken is her fave.

My sweet Cavapoo is possibly the fussiest eater around. He literally will go two days without food if he doesn’t like it, and if there’s kibble involved – FORGET IT! I was desperate and decided it was time to try freshly made food. I don’t have time to cook for him so I ordered from Pet Plate. Instantly, and that’s not an exaggeration, I had a happy dog who looked forward to every meal. It was miraculous. He LOVES his Pet Plate food and I’m so happy with his digestion, his shiny coat and his weight. And to top it all off, Pet Plate has outstanding customer support.
