Started in 1930 by George Mottershead as a place to keep his growing animal collection, Chester Zoo has grown to become one of the largest in the UK, covering 130 acres. The Oakfield, originally the family's home, lies at the heart of the zoo and has been beautifully restored with intricate wood panelling, historical photos and views out onto the gardens.

The St Andrews Suite at Mottram Hall is a beautiful ceremony room suitable for any wedding with up to 90 guests. The space is provided as a simple blank canvas for you to style and design in keeping with your wedding. We love it when couples choose a light touch, which allows both them and their guest to stand out in their photos. If the weather is good, you can also have an outdoor ceremony. Photographing outdoor ceremonies is always a dream come true! The gardens at Motrem Hall provide the perfect backdrop, and natural light always looks fantastic!

One of the many reasons I love returning to Mottram Hall is the truly staggering number of opportunities for photographs.

One of the biggest draws for couples looking to book Mottram Hall is the stunning landscaped gardens, whose colours change throughout the year. I adore the rose gardens, and these are the perfect location for small groups or couples portraits. You also have access to the lake, which can make a stunning backdrop in its own right. Inside the Georgen, elegance and proportions provide a stunning backdrop for photos should you wish to stay indoors.

I love Mottram Hall as a venue, if for nothing more than the number of opportunities available for photos. Each comes into its own throughout the day as light moves around the building. No matter the weather or time of year, Mottram Hall always delivers stunning light in stunning locations.

We all know where Chester Zoo is, right? [There's a rather substantial hint in the name] But did you know Chester Zoo is only 15 minutes from Chester city centre? Honestly, this one surprised me as well, and I have been visiting Chester Zoo for years!

CONFETTI AT CHESTER ZOO

Can we throw confetti at Chester Zoo

Due animal welfare its not possible to have confetti, but there are always alternative options. For a recent wedding we supplied the guest with several cheap bubble blasters. The effect is very similar to confetti, without any risk to the animals!

Can we have Fireworks or launch Chinese lanterns at Mottram Hall?

Unfortunately, due to the rural setting and livestock risk, neither fireworks nor Chinese lanterns can be launched.
