Simple Valentine’s Day Affirmations To Share With Your Teens (and free printables)

Inside: These Valentine’s Day Affirmations are an easy and subtle way to show your teen that you care even when they roll their eyes!

When your Teen was little, Valentine’s Day was so simple and easy. They would be excited about making Valentine’s Day cards for their friends at school and receiving them in return. Maybe you even helped them make a special decorated box for the festive occasion. They would come home after the school party and pull out each of the Valentine’s Day messages. They always said things like:

“You are A SUPER friend!” – with a picture of Superman or some other Marvel hero.

“You are an MVP” – with some sports ball featured

“You are Totally PAWesome” with a cute dog cartoon covered in hearts.

“Sending You Warm Hugs” with that lovable snowman Olaf from Frozen.

Some came with candy, some were homemade and almost of they were pretty cheesy. But what they all had in common was that on Valentine’s Day your child was repeatedly reminded of how amazing a human being they are and how many people care about them.

You probably also treated your little Valentine to a card and some candy or a little toy they may have been wanting. You might have even had a special dinner or made heart-shaped cookies or pink frosted cupcakes. Each family is different, but it was always a day where love was on display in full force, and your child felt cherished and adored.

Why Valentine’s Day Is Still Important For Teens

Fast forward to today and with a tween or teen in the household, Valentine’s Day probably looks pretty different. There are no more school parties or writing out Valentine’s Day cards for classmates and our Teens no longer receive all those affirming messages about just how unique, funny and totally awesome they are.

But the sad thing is that in some ways, teens could really use to hear those affirming words more than their younger selves. Most teens have lost much of the confidence they had when they were in elementary school and the certainty that they were worthy of all that praise and attention.

Just because sweet little kids turn into surly teens who pretend that they are “too big” for some of the traditions from their younger years, doesn’t mean that you should stop those traditions. They still matter and they are still important whether your teen fully realizes it now or not. But you can be guaranteed that even little ways you find to keep some of that magic from their childhoods will be what they remember many years from now.

In fact, Valentine’s Days is the perfect opportunity to try to break through your teen’s sometimes prickly outer layer and let them know you see and cherish the amazing young adult they are on their way to becoming. It doesn’t have to be over the top and in fact sometimes a more subtle, rather than direct approach can be perfect.

Those silly and cheesy Affirmations your teen got on those Valentine’s Day cards when they were little were important. You can still carry on those encouraging messages in a new way with your own Valentine’s Day affirmations for your teen son or teen daughter.

Mantras, also often referred to as affirmations or positive thoughts, are simply words or phrases that one can repeat silently or out loud to help manage thoughts, set intentions, and to increase focus. They can be a great tool for a stressed person in a moment of need, like a teenager who has some big tests coming out or dealing with some friendship drama.

Valentine’s Day Affirmations – Sneak Attack

Below you will find three sheets of printable Valentine’s Day Affirmations for Teens. There are eight different printable affirmations on each sheet. Pick the 14 that you think fit your teen the best and then give them on each day from the first of February until Valentine’s Day on the 14th. Hide them in their school bag, tape one to the mirror in their bathroom, leave one on their pillow at night, and stick one on their steering wheel if they are old enough to drive themselves to school. You get the point. Be creative and be stealthy.

It’s probably best not to hand one to them directly and better just to stay mum about what you’re doing altogether. Don’t bring it up, and don’t fish for a thank you or even an acknowledgment of your Valentine’s affirmation sneak attacks. Just know that with each day and each affirmation, you’re filling up your teen’s heart with the words they need to hear.

The words will sink in and your efforts will matter to them more than you may ever know. Don’t be surprised if at some point you get an unexpected hug or they at least put a few dirty dishes from their room in the sink.

Oh and once you get to February 14th, if you’re up for it, don’t think some heart shaped cookies or a pink frosted cupcake won’t still be appreciated. Store bought is totally fine! Food is always a powerful love language when it comes to teens and just one more way to show them how much you care and that they will always be your special Valentine.
