How to keep yourself calm during KVS PRT INTERVIEW

Keeping yourself calm during a KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) PRT (Primary Teacher) Interview or any job interview is essential to perform your best. Here are some tips to help you stay calm and composed:

1. Preparation is Key:

Thoroughly research the KVS and the PRT role you're applying for. Know the organization's mission, values, and objectives.

Understand the job description and requirements so you can effectively align your qualifications and experiences during the interview.

2. Mock Interviews:

Practice mock interviews with a friend, family member, or in front of a mirror. This will help you get used to answering common interview questions and reduce anxiety.  It is not always possible for everyone to go to any coaching institute and give a mock interview and in fact it is not necessary either. You should know how to self-assess yourself well. You can use mirror  for the interview  Practice and use record your teaching practice with your mobile's back camera for the teaching demo to see where you need improvement.

3. Know Your Resume:

Be ready to discuss your resume in detail. Highlight your relevant experiences and qualifications that make you a suitable candidate for the position.

You should have a good knowledge of all the things mentioned in your resume. If any question related to your qualification or degree like "Why did you drop out?" will be asked, you should have a satisfactory answer.

4. STAR Method:

The STAR method is a structured approach to answering behavioral interview questions. It helps you provide clear and concise responses by breaking down your answers into four key components: Situation, Task, Action, and Result. This method is widely used by job seekers to showcase their skills and experiences effectively. Here's an explanation of each component with an example:

Interview Question: "Can you share a challenging classroom situation and how you handled it?"

 Situation (S):

In my role as a primary teacher...

 Task (T):

...I faced a challenge when a student with a learning disability struggled in math class.

 Action (A):

I collaborated with the school's special education coordinator and the student's parents to understand their needs. I adapted my teaching methods, provided one-on-one tutoring, and encouraged peer support.

 Result (R):

The student's math skills and confidence improved, and the class became more inclusive and supportive.

Note : Here interviewer can give you any challenging situation.

5. Research Common Questions:

Prepare responses to common interview questions such as:

"Tell me about yourself."

"Why do you want to work at KVS?"

"What is your teaching philosophy?"

"How do you handle classroom management challenges?"

" Some current events"

6. Stay Positive:

Maintain a positive attitude throughout the interview. Smile, maintain eye contact, and show enthusiasm for the position.

7. Breathing Exercises:

Deep breathing exercises can help calm your nerves. Take slow, deep breaths before and during the interview to relax your body and mind. If you take unnecessary stress before the interview, which is often the case, then you will not be able to answer even the simplest questions properly and will leave a wrong impression.

8. Visualization:

Visualize a successful interview. Imagine yourself confidently answering questions and leaving a positive impression on the interviewers.

9. Arrive Early:

Plan to arrive at the interview location with plenty of time to spare. This reduces the stress of rushing and allows you to gather your thoughts. If your interview center is far from home or in another state, then book your tickets in advance and try to reach there a day before so that there is no unnecessary rush.

10. Dress Appropriately:

Dress professionally and in accordance with the expected attire for a teaching position.  Boys can wear a formal shirt and pants. You can wear any formal shoes or non-flashy sneakers as footwear. Keep in mind that the color of the clothes should not be too bright or flashy. Girls can wear any plain saree, suit or kurta, keep in mind that the blouse and suit should not be of much design. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to choose the dress according to your comfort. If you have never worn a saree before and you go for an interview wearing a saree, you will be uncomfortable the whole day.  Keep in mind that there will be demo teaching during the interview, so wear such a dress in which you can easily use your hands and teach. You should practice wearing the suit at home a few days before the interview. This will boost your confidence and make a good impression.

11. Prepare Questions:

Prepare thoughtful questions to ask the interviewers. This demonstrates your interest in the role and the organization.

Practice questions and their answers in advance related to various situations arising in school and classroom.

12. Be Honest:

Be honest about your experiences, skills, and qualifications. Interviewers appreciate authenticity. When we lie, our body language changes and interviewers are very experienced, they catch it immediately and can make you uncomfortable by cross questioning related to it.

13. Practice Mindfulness:

Engage in mindfulness or meditation practices to help you stay grounded and focused. These techniques can reduce anxiety and improve concentration. The main problem that occurs during interviews is that the mind goes blank. Therefore, practice some situations that may arise in advance.

14. Accept Nervousness:

Understand that it's normal to feel nervous before an interview. Accept these feelings and remind yourself that you are well-prepared.  Even if you get nervous during an interview, you can politely ask the interviewer for water, or ask for some time to think before answering a question. Keep in mind that instead of giving an irrelevant or wrong answer to a question, it is better that you stop for a while and give an effective answer after thinking.

15. Follow up

Say thank you after the interview to express your gratitude for the opportunity and reiterate your interest in the position.

Remember that interviews are not just about showcasing your skills but also about demonstrating your personality and how well you would fit into the organization's culture. Stay true to yourself, and you'll increase your chances of success.
