Hotel Chocolat’s Dark Chocolate Eggsposé egg, half an Extra Thick Easter egg with eight gianduja mini eggs inside.
This is the dairy free Easter egg from the Eggsposé range, one of five half eggs new for 2011.
Eggsposé a play on the word exposé, meaning to reveal or uncover, and they do live up to their name – the stylish box the eggs are presented in have windows on the front so you can see the mini eggs or chocolates inside, tempting you to try them.
The Extra Thick shell is made from Hotel Chocolat’s award winning house, 70% cocoa, dark chocolate and stands 157mm tall and is about 4mm thick, which doesn’t should very thick but is actually two or three times thicker than other eggs.
For me the real stars of the show are the gianduja mini eggs, gianduja is dark chocolate blended with finely ground hazelnuts and sugar to create a smooth paste, the eight mini eggs are in cast from same dark chocolate as the egg shell and then encrusted with sugar crystals. As you bite into the eggs the sugar adds a crunchy texture followed by the snap of the dark chocolate shell, then comes the beautiful gianduja filling, with the consistency of a very dense mousse – which is so smooth and creamy I had to check this really was a vegan egg! Absolutely beautiful.
Fine chocolate shaped into a chic egg shell and eight mini eggs, worth the price just for the gianduja mini eggs.
