Review: BDS Tactical Fanny Pack

BDS Tactical Gear is an American company that is located in Oceanside, California and has been operating since 2005. They specialize in manufacturing tactical nylon items mainly for military and law enforcement around the world. Their products are used by all the major US military branches, and several US law enforcement agencies. Today we are looking at their BDS Tactical Fanny Pack

The fanny pack is back! There is no doubt that in recent times the fashion world has reclaimed the fanny pack and welcomed it back with open arms. But to be honest, the fanny pack never left the tactical world as in one shape or another it has been continuously utilized for decades. BDS Tactical decided to recreate their idea of the fanny pack with a tactical twist and this is what they came up with. BDS Tactical lists the Tacticla Fanny Pack as:

Honestly, I’m here for it. The Bds Tactical Fanny Pack is one cool looking pack. It is made from 1000D nylon fabrics and features #10 zipper heads with a single pull for a positive point of open and close. This means, not only does it look tough but this thing is durable. While most of the tactical fanny packs and pouches out there are using lighter 500D and 330D materials which are great for weight saving but not as durable as the 1000D BDS Tactical has gone with. It features 2×3 PALS platform sewn on the top for things like chem lights and room markers. There are 2×2 PALS webbing on both left and right sides for attaching modular pouches. On the inside, there is plenty of room to store whatever you want with a complete open storage pouch.

I decided to put it to the test and wore it over the span of 3 days, both on and off duty (training days). I can honestly say I was surprised by how quickly it grew on me by being a very useful tool. There is a ton of room in this thing, and you can easily carry anything you want. On duty I had it setup as a IFAK/medical kit and it worked very well. When I was off duty, I used it to carry my work and personal cellphones, pocket knife, multi-tool, and wallet. Even with all that it felt underused with lots of space remaining in the BDS Tactical Fanny Pack. On the outside of it, I really liked the addition of the webbing on both sides. Not only does this add to the cool factor but it’s very useful in scaling the fanny pack. On duty, it was handy to be able to clip mag pouches that would be easily accessible just thanks to the way a fanny pack sits.

My only complaint was that on one of my shifts I was stuck in the rain and definitely got a little wet. I noticed the BDS Tactical Fanny Pack really retained water which unfortunately just comes with the territory of 1000D nylon. I understand BDS Tactical wanted to make sure that this fanny pack was built tough but that does come at a cost of gaining a few pounds when it becomes wet and retains all the water.

Overall, if this is the “look” you are going for than the BDS Tactical Fanny Pack is the one for you. 8.5/10.
