Featured Mother of the Bride/Groom Dress: Jovani #00635

This Jovani dress is the absolute definition of special occasion dress. Cut exclusively in a classic black/gold combination, the Gown is constructed of lightweight taffeta. This slimming fit and flare gown will fit in perfectly in any ballroom or event space. Embellished with delicate gold floral Venetian lace starting along the sweetheart neckline and trailing down the entire dress, there is no fading into the background with this piece.

This is a stunning black tie gown. Full stop. But, we know that there are ladies out there thinking “there’s no way I could wear that ~ it’s too form fitting” or “you’d have to have a perfect body to wear that dress”. But, that’s not necessarily true. Jovani has inclusive sizing starting at size 00 to size 24!

Truthfully, any dress can be flattering, no matter the size, with the proper Foundation wear underneath. What is foundation wear? Foundation wear is anything that you wear under your gown that shapes, lifts or supports your figure or enhances your shape. Things like body shapers, SPANX, control top pantyhose, long line bras or corsets are all examples of foundation wear.

And we can already hear the knee jerk objections to the thought of wearing foundation wear under your gown. “It’s too uncomfortable”; “it’s expensive” or “it doesn’t stay and rolls down”. We understand the hesitance, but honestly not wearing foundation pieces often gives a frumpy, unpolished look which is not what you want to see reflected in those photos.

For example, when wearing an off the shoulder, spaghetti strap or deep v-necked gown, a good supportive, strapless or long line bra lifts you into the bust dart immediately slimming down your torso and waist. That supportive bra prevents overhang which can make the wearer look thicker in the middle. Same idea is applied to wearing shapewear that targets your mid-section and waist. A supportive, firm control body shaper will smooth out those problem areas allowing your gown to fall more elegantly over the figure. There is nothing more undesirable than seeing creasing or puckering on a gown in photos.

And while we can agree that wearing foundation wear is not as comfortable as your sweatpants, if you invest in quality shapewear and treat it well, it can be worn on numerous occasions with ease. Most shapewear can be machine washed on a gentle cycle and then allowed to air dry. Do not put these garments in the dryer! Tossing your foundation wear into the dryer will damage the lycra or spandex material and will cause the garment to lose elasticity and roll down which is annoying and unsightly.

Once you have the right shape wear, this dress is a knockout. It is perfect for a black tie wedding or other formal affair, or a sophisticated senior prom or sorority formal dress. Can be paired with black or gold gloves for an extra bit of glam. Wear your hair up or down with this one and feel your absolute best! Jovani dresses are also worn in pageants like Miss America and on the red carpet in Hollywood!
