Here’s Why Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes Was Surprised By “Hello, Love, Goodbye” Sequel

Atty. Annette could not believe hearing that a sequel to “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is finally happening

GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support, Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, says she never thought that a “Hello, Love, Goodbye” sequel is finally happening, three years after she first brought the prospect up.

The 2019 blockbuster hit “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” is having a sequel titled, “Hello, Love, Again,” as announced via a New Movie Alert event on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Bringing back the well-received tandem of Star Magic actress Kathryn Bernardo and Sparkle actor Alden Richards, the film will now follow the lives of Joy and Ethan in Canada—years after their romantic encounter in Hong Kong.

The highly anticipated film is a collaborative effort between ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema and GMA-7’s GMA Pictures, in what came as their first joint movie venture that was initiated by Annette herself.

According to Atty. Annette, she only used to tease about it, and finally, it is already in the works. More so, she admits being surprised when its prospect was concretized even further.

As she puts it, “I just want to echo what Kriz [Gazmen, ABS-CBN Films Head] said, I think three years ago yung talks natin, and this is the first actual contract that we entered into with ABS-CBN, itong joint venture for movies.

Sa umpisa pa lang, niloloko ko na si Carlo [Katigbak, ABS-CBN President], sabi ko, ‘Tara, mag-sequel na tayo ng ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye.’ Palagi ko siyang niloloko every time may meeting kami, yan yung niloloko ko.”

She adds, “Tapos bigla na lang a month ago or a few weeks ago, biglang sabi niya, ‘Tara, gawin na natin yung sequel.’ Sabi ko, ‘Totoo ba ‘to?’”

Ultimately,  Atty. Annette thinks “Hello, Love, Again” is perfectly fitting to be the first project between the two network’s content-providing units—echoing her gratitude for the opportunity given to GMA Pictures.

She says, “I’m actually very happy na wala pa tayong ginagawa na joint-venture movie, because, I think this is the best movie that we can begin with.

“So, again, I’m thankful to Star Cinema and ABS-CBN. And of course to Direk Cathy [Garcia-Sampana], Kathryn, and Alden. Thank you very much for this opportunity that you gave GMA Pictures, and we’re looking forward to more collaborations to come.”

What to expect from “Hello, Love, Again?”

The highly anticipated sequel for the blockbuster hit is slated for release on November 13, 2024—with much of the details already out for the fans and general viewers.

Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana will once again take the helm of the film, with screenplays written by Crystal Hazel San Miguel and Carmi Raymundo.

Kathryn and Alden will reprise their roles as Joy and Ethan, respectively—this time navigating the romance in a narrative set in Canada.

According to Kathryn, doing the sequel comes compelling for there are some questions left unanswered in the initial film. This includes how the couple had been and if ever they get to live the dreams they wanted for themselves.

Alden, on the other hand, expressed that the sequel was tucked dearly close to his heart—and he feels happy to have the two networks bring the vision he anticipated for many years.
