Kaye Abad Admits Getting Nervous About Her Acting Comeback: “Marunong Pa Ba Akong Umarte?”

Patrick Garcia also shares Paolo Contis’ gesture during his first shooting day

Kaye Abad admitted that her acting comeback was not immediately a walk in the park.

After five years, Kaye accepted an acting project via the Netflix movie “A Journey,” which reunites her with “Tabing Ilog” co-stars Paolo Contis and Patrick Garcia.

Before this, Kaye’s last acting project was a short role in the ABS-CBN daytime series “Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit,” aired in 2019.

In a roundtable interview organized by Netflix on April 11, 2024, FreebieMNL asked Kaye about her experience with her comeback.

She admitted, “Kinabahan ako kung marunong pa ba akong umarte, kung kaya ko pa ba yung puyatan, mag-memorize bilang kaka-epidural ko lang.

But Kaye is grateful to her co-stars, the staff, and the film’s director RC Delos Reyes for being a big help when she was still immersing herself again on the set.

She continued, “They made me feel—the staff, the director, the actors, they made me feel comfortable, pina-feel nila sa akin na, ‘Okay lang, maghihintay kami kung di ka makaiyak.’

Hindi nila ako prinessure. Nag-adjust din the whole filiming na unahin muna yung mga light parts, nakatulong lahat yun.

“And then, towards the end, noong nag-Australia kami, buo na kami ulit, kumbaga sa diesel, napainit na. So, mas smooth na yung takbo ng lahat and it was very fun, a fun experience and doon ko ulit na-realize na love ko yung acting.”

In the movie, Kaye plays the role of a cancer-stricken woman who refuses to undergo treatment. Instead, she makes a magic list and plans to accomplish it with the help of her husband (Paolo) and best friend (Patrick).

One of the focal points of the film is their trip to Tasmania to fulfill her dreams.

Patrick also makes a comeback

It is not only Kaye who is making a comeback in “A Journey,” but Patrick as well. According to Patrick, the last time he did an acting project was four years ago.

Patrick said that he had the same thoughts as Kaye when he first stepped into the project.

But he expressed appreciation to Paolo for being very supportive of him during his first day of shooting.

He related, “I remember Paolo messaging me, ‘Pat, are you okay? Do you want me to be there on your first day?’

“I got touched because it’s been four years since I acted and been on the set and in front of the camera, and knowing you have a friend who would want to be there just to show you are comfortable, to support…

“I told him naman na, ‘Okay, I can do this,’ but for his willing part to go there, it really touched me.”

Patrick says Paolo’s gesture made him more comfortable throughout the shoot.

“I think that’s where it started, knowing that each and everybody was there to support and guide each other para the set is light and we can do our characters properly and we shoot the film happily.”

“ A Journey,” produced by Mavx Productions, started streaming on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
