Governor pulls plug on Kamikazee performance allegedly after band fails to appear for a pictorial

Sorsogon Governor Jose Edwin Hamor shocked the attendees at the Casiguran town festival event when he announced the sudden removal of the band Kamikazee from the performance lineup.

Governor Hamor revealed that he made the decision based on the band’s alleged “attitude problem.”

The announcement came right after the performances of I Belong to the Zoo and Imago at Plaza Escudero, Casiguran Pier Site, on October 1, 2023.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Hamor expressed his regret over the situation.

“Humihingi ako ng paumanhin [dahil] hindi na matutuloy ang Kamikazee,” Hamor said, as seen in a live stream of the event on LGU Casiguran Sorsogon’s Facebook page. “Wala tayong magagawa. Bayad ‘yon kaso may mga attitude. Pinauwi ko na sa airport,” he stated firmly.

Kamikazee had already arrived at the venue but were not allowed to perform due to the governor’s decision.

Governor Hamor emphasized that he did not take this action lightly but felt it was necessary to maintain the dignity and respect of the people of Sorsogon.

“Nandiyan na [sila] kanina kaso may attitude…. Sana maintindihan niyo [na] hindi ko gusto ‘to kaso, sinabi ko nga, may attitude,” he continued, then went on to address the rock band: “Hindi kayo makakabalik sa Sorsogon, maniwala kayo sa akin.”

The talked-about Kamikazee pictorial

Governor Hamor assured the crowd that Kamikazee had been paid their talent fee in advance, but their alleged behavior warranted their removal from the show.

He expressed regret over the situation but emphasized his commitment to upholding the dignity of the people of Sorsogon. He stated, “Hindi tayo pwedeng bastusin mga taga-Sorsogon. Pinipilit ko na itaas ang dignidad ng bawat Sorsoganon pero huwag ganon na tayo ay babastusin.”

However, the governer opted not to expound on why Kamikazee was booted out of their performance. He then added, “Alam ko na gustung-gusto niyo [sila] marinig pero sa YouTube na lang kayo.”

Sorsogon’s Public Information Officer, Dong Mendoza, revealed in a “24 Oras” report that Governor Hamor’s decision was influenced by an incident involving a pictorial.

Kamikazee had reportedly agreed to a photoshoot at the town’s famed 16,000 blue roses. However, the band did not show up as planned. This perceived disrespect appeared to have offended Governor Hamor, leading to Kamikazee’s removal from the festival lineup.

Jay Contreras chooses love

Kamikazee, which became popular for their hit songs “Huling Sayaw,” “Narda,” “Halik” and “Doo Bidoo,” has yet to publicly comment on this incident.

However, days after the Sorsogon event, the band’s frontman Jay Contreras dropped cryptic posts on his Instagram page.

“I choose love,” he wrote in one black-and-white portrait of himself.

“Choose love,” he penned in the another monochrome portrait on his IG account.
