Nina will hold her birthday concert on November 8, 2023 at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura

OPM singer Nina has been captivating audiences for two decades with her soulful voice and heartfelt performances.

Her Music has touched the hearts of millions, including her chart-topping hit, “Love Moves in Mysterious Ways.”

Behind the scenes, Nina has also learned valuable lessons about love and relationships, leading to her biggest realization: “Love yourself first.”

Talking about her biggest realization when it comes to love, Nina shared some her insights on the importance of self-love.

She says, “Kapag nagmahal ka nang todo na wala ka nang natira sa sarili mo, mate-take advantage tayo. Kasi kapag malaman nila na sobrang mahal mo, kahit ano, pwede nilang kunin from you: your money, your life, your time.

“So, ngayon, ang natutunan ko: to love yourself first. It’s not about being selfish. You have to love yourself first before you can love other people.

Kasi how can you love other people if you don’t even love yourself? Kaya yung sarili mo, alagaan mo bago mo alagaan at mahalin ang ibang tao.”

Is Nina in love now?

“In love sa buhay, everything,” she said with a smile. “Yes, in love sa life!”

When did she realize that she was already loving someone too much?

Yung time na bata pa ako. Na-realize ko noong may alam na ako about love, doon ko lang na-realize na ganun pala dapat

Kapag nag-mature ka and everything, doon mo mako-compare na hindi pala dapat ganun, you have to keep some for yourself for you to be able to love a person.

Kapag binigay mo lahat, wala nang matitira sa iyo,” Nina reiterated as she pointed out that true love starts within oneself, and only then can it extend to others.

Nina’s upcoming birthday concert

Nina is dubbed the “Diamond Soul Siren” because she is the first female artist in the Philippines to receive the Diamond Record Award.

The OPM singer is scheduled to stage her birthday concert, titled “Only Nina” on November 8, 2023 at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura in Taguig.

This event promises to be a memorable night filled with Nina’s powerful performances and soul-stirring music.

John Prats will serve as the concert director while Bobby Velasco is the musical director.

What can fans expect from her concert?

Mayroong pagka-nostalgic [ang concert] and, of course, we would not want to leave out naman the younger ones. Pero, nakakagulat din na the younger ones ay alam yung songs ko like ‘Someday.’

“This is going to be the first one na magkaka-work kami together ni John Prats. Kapag mayroong ideas si Direk, iko-consider, and ganun din kapag mayroon akong ideas.”

Will Nina’s daughter also become a singer?

Nina takes pride in raising her 7-year-old daughter, Ysabela, who is showing signs of sharing her passion for music.

“I feel so confident now knowing that I have a daughter. I have someone given to me by the Lord and I feel so confident na babae pala ako.”

Nina recalls that even at a young age, her daughter has shown her innate talent for music.

“Even before, when she was smaller pa, when we were like in the car, she would listen to an old song, and pag-uwi namin sa bahay, alam na niya yung kanta.

“Aware naman siya na singer ako. She knows. She can see it. Minsan, nagugulat siya na mayroong mga nagpapa-picture.”

Will she allow her daughter to be an artist like her?

Nina answered, “I will encourage her if she likes to sing. Whatever she wants to do, I will encourage her.”

Nina’s 20 years in showbiz

As a singer, how does Nina take care of her voice?

“If I need time to rest, I do it. I still give a 110% to any show, kahit sa bar ‘yan, kahit three songs lang ‘yan. I also give time for myself in order for me to share my music with everyone kasi if I don’t rest, ano na lang ang ipapakita ko sa kanila,” she explained.

Nina took the time to look back on her 20 years in the entertainment industry and give some nuggets of advice for aspiring singers.

She shares, “Biggest achievement ko yung to be awarded as Diamond Record awardee authenticated by Warner Music.

Lalo na during our time, mahirap makakuha noon, e, kasi physical album, e. [They] have to buy the album talaga to be able [for an artist] to get that award.”

But did you know that Nina was actually reluctant to become a singer at first?

She admits, “Akala nila, instant success ako. Before [achieving the fame], nag-banda ako, sumasali ako sa contests.

Bata pa lang ako, tinuruan na ako ng daddy ko na kumanta. That time, parang ayaw ko pa.

Pero ngayon, thankful ako sa daddy ko dahil pinilit niya akong kumanta. Siguro, he knows na I have a talent.”

She reminds singers who want to penetrate the OPM scene, “Alagaan ang talent. Huwag lumaki ang ulo.

“Do the music because you wanna do the music. Don’t do it because you wanna get back at the person. Gawin mo ang music para i-share.”
