Star Awards For Movies 2023 Winners Announced; Here’s Why Direk Chito Rono Was Moved To Tears

DonBelle was able to beat six pairs in the category Movie Love Team of the Year

Erik Matti’s “On The Job: The Missing 8” dominated the 38th Star Awards for Movies by winning six trophies during the awarding ceremony held last July 16, 2023.

Organized by the Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC), the 2023 Star Awards for Movies was held at the Centennial Hall of Manila Hotel.

“On The Job 2: The Missing 8” was able to win Movie of the Year, Movie Director of the Year for Erik Matti, Movie Supporting Actress of the Year for Lotlot de Leon (who tied with Janice de Belen for “Big Night”), Movie Ensemble Acting of the Year for the entire cast, Movie Screenwriter of the Year (Michiko Yamamoto), and Movie Sound Engineer of the Year (Corinne De San Jose).

Former ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio and Sunshine Dizon were both named as Movie Actress of the Year for their movies “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” and “Versus,” respectively.

Meanwhile, actor-director and producer Vince Tañada won the trophy for Movie Actor of the Year for his performance in his musical “Katips.”

Kapamilya love team partners Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano bagged the Movie Love Team of the Year award for their rom-com film “Love Is Color Blind.” They were able to beat the following love teams: Ken Chan and Rita Daniela (“Huling Ulan Sa Tag-Araw”); Jeremiah Lisbo and Kaori Oinuma (“Love At First Stream”); Andi Abaya and Joaquin Domagoso (“Caught In The Act”); JC Santos and Yassi Pressman (“More Than Blue”); Paolo Contis and Yen Santos (“A Far Away Land”); and JC Santos and Janine Gutierrez (“Dito At Doon”).

Alfred Vargas, Claudine Barretto, Sunshine Cruz, and Christian Bautista served as the hosts of the 2023 Star Awards for Movies.

Direk Chito Rono moved to tears

Director Chito Rono shed tears upon seeing the Streetboys gathered together in order to honor him when he won his first lifetime achievement award called “Ulirang Alagad Ng Pelikula Sa Likod Ng Kamera.”

Vhong Navarro, Jhong Hilario, Danilo Barrios, Meynard Marcellano, Joey Andres, Christopher Cruz, and Nicko Manalo were all present that night to pay tribute to their mentor.

The awarding ceremony will be aired on ALLTV this Sunday, July 23, at 9 p.m.
