Sunshine Cruz on the possibility of falling in love again: “Kung may dumating para sa akin, bakit hindi?”

Almost a year since their split, Sunshine Cruz has revealed another reason for the ending of her romance with longtime beau Macky Mathay.

While the actress has glossed over “trust” as one of the reasons behind their breakup during interviews in February 2023, Sunshine has finally shared another potential reason.

In an interview with journalist Karen Davila posted on July 13, 2023, Sunshine Revealed that she has no regrets despite the sad ending between her and the San Juan City Councilor.

“Sa totoo lang, pagdating kasi [sa relationship ko] kay Macky, hindi ko rin naman hinintay. That time, magfo-four years na akong hiwalay kay Cesar [Montano]. I was too focused on my children and work. I gave him a chance and no regrets naman,” she said.

Further piecing together the picture of the ending of their love story, Sunshine revealed that she initiated the split five days before their sixth anniversary.

“Naka-lock-in taping pa noon. Through message, I said na, ‘I don’t think may patutunguhan pa itong relationship,’” she shared.

While she stressed that Macky is a “good guy,” she realized that their relationship has somehow stayed stagnant in the past years.

“I love his children. Pero siyempre at this point in my life, I am 45. Siyempre, naghahanap na tayo ng relationship na kahit papaano ay lume-level up. Hindi’ ‘yung diretso. Kasi magsi-six years na pero parang [diretso] lang kami,” Sunshine said.

Did she want to remarry?

“No, sa totoo lang, ayaw ko naman na. I am okay na life partner na lang. Pero ‘yung pagpapakasal, sa ngayon, hindi ko naiisip,” she explained.

But she quickly added, “Maybe when I turn 60 or 70, parang si Tita Boots Anson-Roa, who knows, di ba? Kung ibibigay [ni Lord]. Pero hindi natin pwede ipilit. If it’s not really for you, it’s not for you.”

Recall that Sunshine was previously married to Cesar in 2000. The former couple only got annulled in September 2018.

In keeping with her positive outlook in life, Sunshine revealed that she is not closing her heart to the prospect of falling in love again.

“Ang sarap magmahal. Ang sarap kiligin. Ang sarap ng may inspirasyon. So, kung may dumating para sa akin, bakit hindi? Lahat naman tayo, may karapatan tayong mahalin at magmahal,” she ended.
