Korina Sanchez: “Well, I never really left”

Veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez is back on ABS-CBN as she signed a contract with the Kapamilya network on Wednesday, July 5, for her magazine and lifestyle show “Rated Korina.”

“Rated Korina” has been airing on ABS-CBN’s platforms since 2021 as a blocktimer. This time, ABS-CBN and Korina are co-producing the show.

Gleaned from Korina’s instagram post is her elation over her anticipated return. She writes: “And just like that, I’m baaaack. 

“Well, I never really left. Rated Korina had always aired still on the ABS CBN platforms the past years, thanks to Brightlight Productions and Mr. Albee Benitez,” she adds, referring to the previous co-producer of “Rated Korina” and the incumbent mayor of Bacolod City.  

In the same post, she announces that the signing substantiates that her comeback for “Rated Korina” is a partner collaboration with her ABS-CBN family. 

The veteran anchor also extends her gratitude with the ABS-CBN executives, chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo L. Katigbak, COO of Broadcast Cory V. Vidanes, OIC of finance group Vincent Paul O. Piedad who were all present during the contract signing. 

As she says it, “You can take the girl out of ABSCBN. But you can’t take that ABSCBN training out of the girl.

“And this is the experience I hopefully bring to my other broadcast homes and make a contribution as best I can, while I can, in whatever ways made possible to me,” she adds.

Colleagues, celebrities welcome Korina back to ABS-CBN 

Korina’s Kapamilya return was met with an upbeat reception from fans, celebrity friends, and colleagues who all expressed their joys and well wishes for the veteran anchor. 

“TV Patrol” news anchor Karen Davila brought up Korina’s legacy in the network. “Wooohooo! You never left K! You are forever etched in the history of ABS!”

Sports reporter Dyan Castillejo, on the other hand, commented: “Awesome Korina! The best.”

Celebrities, such as award-winning actresses Sylvia Sanchez and Lorna Tolentino, also flocked to Korina’s comment section to offer her their warm welcome. 

Korina Sanchez’s career in ABS-CBN 

Korina Sanchez stands as one of ABS-CBN’s public affairs and journalism pillars, having to work for a solid 33 years before she left the network in 2020. 

Some of her shows under ABS-CBN are “Hoy Gising!,” “Balitang K,” “Bandila,” “TV Patrol,” and “Rated K,” which came to be her household program from 2004 to 2020.

Her last program, “Rated K,” was affected by the shutdown of ABS-CBN in 2020.

Months later, Korina returned to doing a TV program via “Rated Korina,” which is her self-produced show with Brightlight Productions. It started airing in late 2020 on TV5.

Later, “Rated Korina” was aired on a blocktime basis on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z, with streaming made equally available on IWant TFC and TFC. 

On top of “Rated Korina,” the veteran broadcast journalist also headlines two more programs: “Korina Interviews” on Net 25 and “TikTalks” on One PH.
