Marco Gumabao reveals that publicizing his relationship with Cristine Reyes was actually something that his girlfriend did not know about!

Marco shares this in an interview with FreebieMNL and other media during the press conference of his VivaOne series, “Deadly Love,” on June 20, 2023.

While they were planning when to reveal their relationship to the public eye, Marco just decided to post a sweet photo of them, which confirmed their rumored relationship.

He says, “Kasi, pina-plan na rin namin. Ayaw naman naming magtago, hindi naman namin siya gustong itago sa tao and we were just looking for the right timing.

“Sinurprise ko siya kasi kahit siya, nagulat siya, e. Actually, pinost ko yung photo na yun sa Instagram, kakahiwalay lang namin noon kasi magkasama kami ‘tapos doon ko pinost.“

How did Cristine react to Marco’s post?

Marco answers with a smile, “Siyempre, kinilig siya.”

It was on April 24, 2023 when Marco made his relationship with Cristine Instagram-official, after he posted a photo of him kissing Cristine on the cheeks.

This comes after months of being spotted together with the sightings posted on social media, allowing people to infer that the two are in a relationship.

Marco and Cristine: from friends to lovers

Before becoming lovers, Marco and Cristine started as workmates who eventually became friends.

They first worked as siblings in the afternoon series “Tubig at Langis” in 2016. Marco admits that at the time, Cristine was already his “happy crush.”

Later, Marco and Cristine worked again in the 2018 movie “Abay Babes,” where “na-form yung friendship namin.”

They would later see each other at the birthday party of Nadine Samonte’s daughter, who is the niece of Marco as he and Nadine’s husband are cousins. Cristine and Nadine, on the other hand, are longtime friends and batchmates in the first season of GMA-7’s “StarStruck.”

Marco says of this, “Doon na nag-start. Gusto niyang mag-workout, wala siyang kasabay. [Sabi ko], ‘Sige, sabay ka sa amin ni Jake.’

“Actually, kaming tatlo nila Jake, ang trip namin every workout, kanya-kanya kaming scripts na binabasa. Kumbaga kapag may questions, we ask each other.”

“Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan Ang Nakaraan”

Right now, Marco and Cristine are paired in the upcoming TV5 afternoon drama series, “Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan Ang Nakaraan,” which is produced by VIVA Television.

It is an adaptation of the 1983 film starring Vilma Santos, Christopher de Leon, and the late Eddie Garcia. Cristine and Marco take on the respective roles of Vilma and Christopher, while Eddie’s role will be portrayed by Cesar Montano.

Of this, Marco debunks people’s comments that they just publicized their relationship because of the series they are working on.

He explains, “Actually, noong binigay sa amin yung project na ito, hindi pa kami public, so, a lot of people were insinuating na parang for promo yung pag-publicize namin kasi nga may show kami.

“Pero hindi nila alam, nabigay ito sa amin even before, nakaplano na talaga siya. Kaya hindi kami medyo nakapag-take off muna kasi yung role ni Mr. Eddie Garcia yung hinahanap pa. Ang daming gustong ilagay pero hindi pwede sa schedule, may conflict.”

But how is their working relationship now that they are already a couple?

Marco admits, “Well, sa totoo lang, kinabahan kami. Ako, especially, kasi first time ko working with someone that I’m in a relationship with, so, hindi namin alam paano ba. Parang naging love team kami bigla. Yung feeling namin, nakakabagets naman na biglang tayo yung ano.

“Pero okay siya, it’s easier to work with someone na love mo talaga at saka mas madali.”
