Ricci Rivero says his family has been experiencing bullying which prodded him to speak up about the reason behind their split

Weeks after their highly-publicized break up with Andrea Brillantes, Ricci Rivero finally faced the public to share his side of the story.

In an interview with Boy Abunda last June 26, 2023, Ricci shared that he and Andrea have actually cooled off in April.

“April 2023 we took a break off from each other, tapos yung breakup was first week of May talaga,” he shared.

The basketball player explained that they actually tried to patch things up but to no avail.

He added, “Ang cause ng breakup, yung speculations na kumakalat sa social media na may nakita siyang girl doon sa place ko. Pero ilang beses po naman naming pinag-usapan ito. Sobrang daming beses.”

Ricci even went as far as presenting “pieces of evidence” to Andrea just to belie the claims on social media. He added that the woman she saw in his place was “not his.”  

According to the athlete, they were able to mend their ties after that incident when Andrea realized that she was wrong, and because of that, they were able to amicably part ways.

Following news of their split, rumors had it that Ricci was already cozying up with beauty-queen-turned-politician Leren Bautista, an issue that the office of the latter immediately denied.

While he has kept mum since his break-up announcement, Ricci revealed that the bullying that was experienced by his family prodded him to speak up.

“Umabot na po sa point na yung parents ko po, nasisigawan na sa mall o sa public areas, ‘Yung anak niyo, cheater!'” he said. 

As a public personality, Ricci pointed out that he can face those accusations even if, according to him, they are untrue.

“Pero kapag sa family ko, siguro it’s time to step up, and kailangan ko silang protektahan sa mga issues na meron. Ako, okay lang, pero huwag yung pamilya ko,” he said.

Apart from clarifying the reason for their split, Ricci likewise admitted that he and Andrea do “sleep together” at times.

“From time to time, we do, pero ang gusto ni Tita [Andrea’s mother] is for her to go home din,” Ricci confessed.

But he was quick to clarify that they have set some boundaries about that set-up early on.

“At yun din naman ang sinasabi ko na ayoko rin na at this early age… ‘Gusto ko mag-focus ka din sa industry mo, sa work mo, sa goals mo. Ako, kailangan ko rin mag-focus dun sa akin.’ Pero there are times that we do sleep together,” he explained. 

Recall that the Kapamilya actress-influencer for her part has also recently spoken up about the issue.

“Alam mo yun, naging totoo kasi sa akin lahat. Ako, nagmahal ako nang totoo, hindi ko yun male-let go agad,” she said in a “Magandang Buhay” interview.

She added, “Ayaw ko naman maging pretentious na maki-trend lang na I’m unbothered para lang masabi na ‘unbotheredly.’ Aminado ako na nakakaramdam ako kasi tao pa rin ako,” she continued.
