The Philippines’ most awarded broadcast journalist, Jessica Soho, has renewed her contract with GMA-—her home network for over four decades—on May 31, 2023.
Jessica pledged for yet another time to uphold journalistic integrity as she continues her philanthropic mission of sharing Filipinos’ stories across the world.
A grateful Jessica says, “Thank you very much. Walang hanggang pasasalamat. GMA has been my home for the past 38 years and counting. Kung walang GMA, walang Jessica Soho. Ganun lang iyon ka-simple.”
Seen at Jessica Soho’s contract renewal were GMA Network’s big bosses including GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, and First Vice President of Public Affairs Nessa Valdellon.
Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon reinstates Jessica’s unwavering contribution and value. So much for being one of the most awarded in the field, Jessica is also considered as “one of GMA Network’s most-prized gems.
Felipe states, “Bilang isa sa mga itinuturing na mukha ng GMA Network, naging matibay na institusyon si Jessica ng GMA News, at isa siya sa mga nirerespetong haligi ng award-winning team ng GMA Public Affairs.
He also iterates his respect and admiration for Jessica, as he emphasizes the reputable feat that the journalist cemented for the program “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.” With that, he “at ang buong GMA Network ay nagagalak na nananatili siyang Kapuso.”
Jessica Soho’s passion-fueled mission
For GMA-7, Jessica precedes the role of an ordinary broadcaster. She acts as “one of the main driving forces behind GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs.”
This is gleaned from the number of public affairs shows that bred out of her ideas, including the iconic shows “Brigada Siete,” “Emergency,” and “I-Witness.”
Jessica attests that much more than work, storytelling is her passion. And so her duties extend outside journalism. “I think God blessed me with an overactive mind, kaya dapat lang i-share even my craziest of thoughts,” she says.
In continuum with having a creative mind, Jessica feels the need to pass the craft from her onwards. “I promise to continue my ideas and pitching storylines and program concepts as well as mentoring our production staff. My colleagues will bear me out on this— hindi ako madamot.
“So, I’m looking forward to keep on generating story concepts and sharing these with our producers and storytellers, in whatever formats and genres,” she adds.
What’s next for Jessica Soho?
Jessica braves herself with yet another project titled “The GMA Public Affairs Talk.”
The program centers around the broadcaster’s quest to deliver her four-decade journalistic experience across the country, with “students and young professionals” as the target audience.
More so, she plans on upholding the principles of journalism by tackling its fundamentals. As for her, it’s a continuing quest to be trusted or to be worthy of trust.” This is the very reason to “earn your stripes, show up for work even on bad days” since “there’s a public to be served.”
Of course, Jessica continues to do her hosting duties in her top-rating program, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.”
