Rekindle The Unwavering Bayanihan Spirit With Go! Volunteer Expo 2023

Align with different advocacies and become a volunteer through Go! Volunteer Expo 2023!

One is fundamentally wrong for thinking that the bayanihan spirit innate in the Filipino blood is long dead. Time and time again, Philippine soil continues to see Filipinos uphold this core value—especially in times of adversaries. Be it during the devastating effects of natural calamities or just simple alms given on the streets, one can inarguably state that it is alive and thriving. Very much so, it seems as if this trait cannot be buried and will continue to seep in the years to come.

This claim is more evident now that iVolunteer Philippines brings back the very essence of bayanihan through its Go! Volunteer Expo. In collaboration with SM Cares, SM Supermalls, and Cravewell, the biggest and most prominent volunteer engagement event in the Philippines is here again to prove that the roots of communal camaraderie threads deeply within the land.

After the first two successful runs of iVolunteer expo in 2016 and in 2019, the third installation is finally happening this year from May 6 to 7 at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong. The two-day event calls for a transformational approach in volunteerism by asking people to “discover new” possibilities.  Furthermore, it scales its visions wider by hosting a separate event in Davao—the very first event to happen outside Manila. The Davao leg will run from May 27 to 28 at SM City Davao Annex.

At its core, Go! Volunteer aims to create an avenue where non-profit organizations (NGOs) and volunteers can come together to discuss their needs and interests. Some notable NGO partners participating in the event include those with advocacies in poverty alleviation, community development, children, education, environment, persons deprived of liberty, elderly, persons with disabilities, women empowerment, animals, and many more.

More so, key speakers will grace the event to give encompassing talks about modern-day volunteerism. Fusing the fun, attendees are also welcome to join in games, activities, and treats brought by the event partners.

Go! Volunteer Expo in the past

In figures, iVolunteer Philippines’ records show that it gained an impressive 35,000 organic foot traffic in 2016 and 2019. 6,000 hours of volunteerism were monitored together with 28 NGO partners ending in 2019. By the numbers, it generated 15% to 20% volunteer conversion rate.

Even during the COVID-19 crisis, the organization was still immersed in its line of work. Now that virus restrictions were lifted, it returns to its usual physical volunteering. “We’ve continued our volunteer activities online during the pandemic when we were locked in our homes; but now, we’re saying we can volunteer in person again,” says iVolunteer Executive Director JB Tan.

“We all started volunteering because of a personal reason, either to try an experience or find connections. Volunteering is the perfect way to discover something new for your life,” adds Tan.

In 2019, iVolunteer Philippines held its 10th year anniversary at the Glorietta Activity Center as it hosted a two-day matchmaking event for NGOs and volunteers. Three years prior to that, it also commenced an expo that saw over 1,136 on-the-spot sign ups for 28 NGOs. This year, it continues its legacy with expectations of having more volunteers to pair with NGOs of their choice.
