The live-action performance for “How Far I’ll Go” will surely be exciting to watch!

On April 4, Dwayne Johnson revealed Disney would remake the beloved animated film “Moana” into a live-action adaptation.

Some fans expressed concerns about the live action Moana remake, worrying that it might not capture the same magic as the original. Yet, others love the possibility of seeing the story in a new light.

Disney originally released “Moana” in 2016. It tells the story of a young Polynesian princess as she embarks on a journey to save her people and find her true identity with the help of the demigod Maui. The film received praise for its culturally authentic representation of Pacific Islander culture. People also loved its catchy songs and the stunning animations.

Disney announces Live-Action Moana in the works

In this year’s Disney shareholders meeting, Bob Iger played a pre-recorded video of Johnson in Hawaii. In the footage, the former wrestler is with his two daughters, playing with sand. Johnson talks about the island of O’ahu and the importance of Hawaii to his family.

“The Pacific Islands and their cultures inspired a very special story. One that you all know very well, and that story is… drum roll please,” Johnson says. Soon after, his daughters come together and shout, “Moana!”

Then, Johnson confirmed that a live-action Moana was in development. He mentioned familiar characters like the titular heroine, Grandma Tala, Te Fiti, Pua the Pig, and Heihei, the chicken will be back. He also said the film would feature music by Mark Mancina, Opetaia Foa’i, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Aside from being the film’s producer, Johnson also confirmed he would reprise his role as the shapeshifting demigod Maui.
