How To Entertain Friends In Your New Home – 5 Fun Ideas

This is a collaborative post.

Moving into your own home is such an exciting time. Whether you’re buying or renting, whether it’s your first property or you’ve already had previous homes- it’s always full of joy. And there’s no better way to revel in that than to invite family and friends over and Entertain them so you can enjoy the space with them! If you’ve just moved and are wondering how to Entertain Friends and loved ones, consider these 5 fun ideas.

How To Entertain Friends In Your New Home

1. Host a Dinner Party

If you’re a bit of a culinary whiz then a formal dinner party can be such a fun way to entertain friends in your new home. You’ll have great fun setting up a beautiful tablescape with layered tableware, candles and fresh flowers and from there you can create a menu everyone will love.

If you go with starters that can be made ahead of time (like homemade soup, pate and bread or tasty salads) as well as a dessert, then on the night you can just focus on the main course. This makes things much less stressful for you, and means that if you’re cooking things like steaks or other ‘cooked to order’ items, all of your attention can go on them and you’re less likely to get it wrong.

If you want something that’s easy to dish up, big trays of lasagne, a pot of chilli or a couple of curries along with accompaniments are easy to serve up on the night as they’ll just need rewarming. Family style fajitas and tacos where everyone can dig in can also be a good idea. Have a think about your skill level, preferences of your guests and how formal you want to go when you’re planning your menu.

2. Afternoon Tea in the Garden

If your new home has a garden or outdoor space, why not make the most of it and host an afternoon tea? Set the scene with cosy blankets, cushions, and an assortment of teas. If you enjoy baking you could whip up some home baked treats, otherwise buy them in – most supermarkets will do fancy tea party sized cakes that would be perfect.

You could go all out and buy some tiered cake stands and mismatched china from charity shops, or use what you already have. If it’s a sunny day and you want a fun way to spend a day in the garden with loved ones then this is a perfect option!

3. Have a Movie or Gaming Night

If you’re a movie night or gaming marathon fan then this can be a fun idea. After the boxes are unpacked and the furniture is in place, gather your friends for a cozy cinematic experience. Choose a selection of your favourite films, set up a popcorn station, and let the movie magic unfold.

Alternatively, if you’re a gaming enthusiast, turn your new space into a gaming haven. Whether it’s video games, board games, or card games, a gaming night promises hours of laughter and friendly competition. Create an inviting atmosphere with comfy seating, blankets, and snacks, ensuring your friends feel right at home.

4. DIY Pizza Party

This is a great interactive and delicious gathering that allows everyone to play chef and customise their own pizzas. Set up a pizza making station with a selection of crusts, sauces, cheeses, and toppings. If you have a pizza oven in the garden then that’s even better, but even if you don’t, you can easily cook them in the oven and have a fun get-together in the kitchen. This is a great one for kids and adults alike, from foodies to fussy eaters as everyone gets what they want, and it can be customised for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and much more.

5. Home Spa Day

If you want something thats not focused around food then how about hosting a rejuvenating home spa day for your friends? Put out some face masks, nail polish, hand and foot lotions and soothing music. Set the mood with scented candles and relaxing music, and encourage your friends to unwind and indulge. Enjoy the tranquil ambiance by lounging in cosy robes or pjs, have a chat or watch something fun on the tv. If your friends are planning on sleeping over then this could be a nice way to unwind in the evening too.
