End Of An Era: After departing the Blue Devils, Jeremy Roach might be eager to make a big move.

End Of An Era: After departing the Blue Devils, Jeremy Roach might be eager to make a big move.

After Jeremy Roach revealed on Tuesday night that he was leaving the Duke basketball program, schools flocked to sign him, making him one of the greatest additions to the transfer portal.

Prior to Thursday, St. John’s, Kentucky, and Arkansas were the three clear favorites for the two-time Duke captain. However, various rumors arose on Thursday indicating that Baylor had become the front-runner for Roach.

Trilly Donovan, the anonymous college basketball insider on social media, later disclosed that Baylor would be giving the former Blue Devil an astounding $1.5 million in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation.

In the current NIL era, it would rank among the biggest sums of money ever received by a basketball player.

But Roach denied that on social media.

The news of a financial infusion surrounding the Baylor program comes only one week after Scott Drew declined the head coaching position at Kentucky in favor of staying in Waco, where he was promised more NIL money in addition to a bigger compensation to entice elite players.

Perhaps the mission was fulfilled.

Drew witnessed Jeremy Roach, who shot 5-for-9 from the field, score 18 points against Baylor this season as Duke upset the Bears at Madison Square Garden in December.

This season, Roach averaged 14.0 points per game on 42.9 percent three-point shooting. Similar to how he returned to Duke following his junior year, he too declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, but it is unlikely that he will be included in the pool of possibilities.

The main factor in Roach’s departure from the Blue Devils was the return of Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor.

In the preseason rankings, Baylor should be among the top ten teams, and they are also anticipated to sign Tennessee transfer Jonas Aidoo.

Six players, including Roach, have left Duke through the transfer portal as a result of the decisions made by Mark Mitchell, Christian Reeves, TJ Power, Jaylen Blakes, and Jaden Schutt.
