SAD NEWS : Carlton Palmer reacts to latest Reading FC ownership news….

The Royals have had four points deducted this season for failing to meet financial agreements with the EFL.

The 4 points they lost caused the team to fall into the League One relegation zone, with the team ranked 22nd in the rankings.

Reading are once again hit with a transfer embargo with another points deduction looming, as owner Dai Yongge faces increasing scrutiny over the way he runs the club.

The businessman is said to be seeking between £70m and £80m to agree to sell his shares in the Berkshire company.

Carlton Palmer has expressed sympathy for Ruben Selles, who is trying to manage the first team in all their off-field matters.

He confirmed that Reading is at risk of further relegation unless things are resolved quickly.

Palmer told Football League World: “Reading are currently third in League One and reports suggest Reading could face a further points deduction.
“They lost 4 points this season.

“They are only one point away from safety. “If the club continues to have points deducted for not complying with the agreement reached with the EFL, there will be a serious risk of relegation in consecutive seasons.

“Owner Dai Yongge continues to seek outside investment in an effort to minimize the risk of future cash flow problems.

“This really needs to be fixed.

“The manager must be very upset because he doesn’t know what’s going on and he’s trying to get the team going and you end up with another point deduction.”

The Royals finished 22nd in the Championship table last season, dropping them into the Third Division.
The distance to safety is only 5 points, of which Reading have been penalized 6 points throughout the season. This punishment effectively proved the difference between staying in the second division and moving up to League One.
Selles was appointed manager in the summer with the aim of returning the club to the Championship as quickly as possible.

However, the unrest off the field is proving to be a major obstacle to any progress made on the field.

Next up for Selles’ side is the trip of Burton Albion to the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Can Reading avoid relegation to League Two? If the club continues to have points deducted, Reading will struggle to maintain its position in League One, let alone get promoted.

Yongge has received a lot of criticism for the way he handled the situation at Reading, and relegation would be his fault if that happened.

The sooner he leaves the club, the better for everyone involved at Reading.

There’s a good squad there, so they should be able to get the results needed to escape the relegation zone, but any other off-field issues could see their balance suffer significantly. .
