Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Galapagos Islands

The Government of Ecuador has placed strict controls on tourist activities in order to minimize the impact on the fragile ecosystems of the islands. Visitors are only allowed to travel to certain areas and must stay on designated trails. Despite these efforts, the increasing number of visitors is putting pressure on the environment of the Galapagos Islands and causing damage to delicate ecosystems.

Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations. The bay is located in the Gulf of Tonkin, and it is known for its dramatic limestone karsts. Mekong River

The Mekong River is a trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia. It is the world’s 12th-longest river and the 7th-longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,350 km (2,703 mi), and it drains an area of 795,000 km2 (307,000 sq mi), discharging 475 km3 (114 cu mi) of water annually. From the Tibetan Plateau the river runs through China’s Yunnan Province, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. In 1995, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam established the Mekong River Commission to assist in the management and coordinated use of the Mekong’s resources. In 1996 China and Myanmar became dialogue partners of the MRC. The extensive inland delta formed at the confluence of the tributaries of the lower Mekong are encompassed within a single International Hydrological Boundary known as the Talek Basin. 

The Mekong is composed of three main zones: The upper Mekong basin which extends from its sources in Tibet to Khone Falls in Laos; The middle Mekong which runs from Khone Falls to Sambor in Cambodia; The lower Mekong basin which extends from Sambor down to its delta with Vietnam.
