Travel: Why You Can’t Miss Out on Wichita’s ICT Blocktoberfest

If you can’t make it out to the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, no worries. Wichita, KS hosts an Ict Blocktoberfest that must be seen to be believed. Read on to find out what to expect when you visit.

About ICT Blocktoberfest

ICT Blocktoberfest takes place over the course of a weekend in early October. The 2022 event will be happening on October 7 and 8. Hours are as follows:

• Friday 4-9 PM

• Saturday noon – 11 PM

Tickets

Blocktoberfest is free to attend. However, you must buy tickets to experience the beer tasting events. Pricing is as follows:

Beer Fest: If you purchase beer fest tickets before 9/1, they will cost $40. If you miss the early bird deadline, tickets go up to $50. They increase to $60 day of. The ticket includes a sample stein and an opportunity to sample over 99 beers.

Beer Fest VIP: VIP tickets are $75. They include one-hour early entry to the tasting and a 20 oz. commemorative ceramic stein.

Events and Activities

ICT Blocktoberfest offers the following events and activities.

• Biergarten: The biergarten is a great place to enjoy the 100 beer options that will be available. It will be open all festival hours.

• Live Entertainment: There will be live music and dancing throughout the event. Bands will be playing traditional and popular music.

• Wiener Dog Races (Sat. 2 PM): Wiener dogs will race to see who gets through the finish line first.

• Vendor Market (Sat. 12-8) : Browse through the market to find a variety of souvenirs and food items.

• Pretzel Eating Contest (Sat. 1 PM): Find out who can eat the most pretzels in the shortest amount of time.

• Musical chairs (Sat. 5 PM): This classic game will get everyone moving around and smiling.

• Standard Beverage Stein Hoist (Sat. 3 PM): This traditional Oktoberfest contest involves competitors hoisting a full stein of beer with their arms outstretched. The one who can hold out the longest wins.

• Wichita Bonding Company Smash (Sat. 3PM): Get your aggressions out by smashing some pumpkins.

• Dad Bod Contest (Saturday 6PM): The dad with the hottest bod wins.

Things to Do in Wichita

Here are some things to do in Wichita when you are not out enjoying Oktoberfest:

• Ulrich Museum of Art: The Ulrich offers an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art.

• Frank Lloyd Wright’s Allen House: Designed in 1915, this house is one of the last additions to the architect’s Prairie Home collection.

• Sedgwick County Zoo: The zoo is home to 500 species of 2500 animals.

• Botanica Gardens: The 20-acre gardens include a butterfly garden, a tropical greenhouse, a juniper garden, and more.

• Museum of the World Treasures: This large history museum shows exhibits and artifacts representing different eras.

• Great Plains Nature Center: This indoor/outdoor nature preserve provides insight on the flora and fauna of the region.

• Exploration Place: This hands-on learning center is fun for the whole family.

• Wichita Art Museum: This museum opened to the public in 1935 and offers a variety of exhibitions and collections featuring American-based artists.

• Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum: This museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Wichita.

• Wichita Symphony Orchestra: The Wichita Symphony Orchestra has been performing since 1944. It puts on a variety of performances throughout the year. Find out where they will be during your visit.
