Travel:What Makes St. Boniface Germanfest an Experience to Remember

If you are looking for an Oktoberfest experience that takes it to the next level, St. Boniface Germanfest is where it’s at. It offers great people, good food, and fun times. Read on to find out what you can expect when you attend the event.

About Boniface Germanfest

The next Boniface Germanfest happens on Sept. 10, 2022. It runs from 4-11 PM. It is located at the Boniface Catholic Church at 318 North 9th St. in Lafayette, IN.

General admission is $5 for children and adults.

Events and Activities

The itinerary for the event is as follows:

• 4 PM: Holy mass in St. Boniface Church, gates open

• 5:15 PM: The opening ceremony

• 10:00 PM: Raffle

• 11:00: Closing ceremonies

There will be live music, games, food, beer and more. You must purchase tickets at the ticket booth during the event which can be redeemed for food and drinks. Tickets are $1 and most items cost $2.

Raffle

The raffle is for cash prizes of $5000, $3000, and $1000. Raffle tickets are $50. They can be purchased at the German Office after weekend masses and at the St. Lawrence/St. Boniface Pastorate office during business hours.

The drawing will be held at 10 PM during the festival. You do not have to be present to win. Proceeds will benefit the ministries and historic preservation of St. Boniface Church.

VIP Passes

VIP passes are $35 for adults, $15 for children and $350 for reserved tables. They include a food and drink item off the menu, access via an exclusive VIP entrance, a great view of the festival, a private bathroom, and servers who will deliver food to your table, so you don’t have to wait in line.

Chocolate Pies

Germanfest is known as the place to pick up one of Grace Ann Brutsman’s famous chocolate amaretto pies. The pies can be pre-ordered and picked up at the festival. There will also be a limited number of pies available for direct purchase. They cost $40.

Things to Do in Lafayette

Here are some things to do in Lafayette, IN when you are not out enjoying Germanfest:

• Explore Downtown Lafayette: Downtown Lafayette offers terrific restaurants, great shops, and a taste of diverse culture.

• Haan Museum of Indiana Art: The Haan Museum offers the biggest collection of Indiana art.

• Purdue University: The university offers several sites including the Hall of Music, two art galleries, a performing arts center, sports arenas, and a John Purdue statue.

• Columbian Park Zoo: The Columbian Park Zoo has close to 200 animals and 100 species.

• Prophetstown State Park: This 2000-acre park is built on the site of a Native American village and offers artifacts of the property’s history as well as an outdoor aquatic center.

• SAMARA (John E. Christian House): SAMARA is a Frank Lloyd Write house originally built for Purdue professor Dr. John Christian and his wife. Guided tours are available.

• Wolf Park: Wolf Park was opened to study the behavior of wolves and other wildlife. It is open to the public by appointment.

• Art Museum of Greater Lafayette: This is another important art museum worth checking out.

• Fort Ouiatenon: This fort was founded in 1717 and served as a French trading post. It is open to the public on weekends.

• Clegg Memorial Garden: The Clegg Memorial Garden was once part of a country retreat and now serves as a native habitat. If offers a mile of trail that’s wonderful to hike in the fall.

Not everyone can make it out to Munich for the real Oktoberfest. Fortunately, cities like Fayetteville offer the experience close to home. Will you be scheduling a visit to this year’s event?
