10 Ways to Use Rope to Decorate for Christmas

Just recently, I was reading about the most popular Christmas decorations and Rope was mentioned. This led me to wonder, hmmm, rope. It doesn’t seem like it’s necessarily the most popular thing to use. And yet somehow, it works.

After a bit of research, I found that the rope didn’t necessarily have to be colorful. Some good old thick brown or white rope can provide a rustic or coastal look that works perfectly. Here are some examples of how you can use it in your décor.

Hang it across the Mantle

Rope can be strung across the mantle in a draping fashion. It will look great intertwined with ribbon. It can even be used to hold stockings.

Across the Banister

The rope can also wind around a stairway banister or railing. It can be accented with swag, ribbons and more.

On a Wreath

Tie rope around your wreath using a sailor’s knot to capitalize on a nautical theme.

Around a Tree

Rope can also be used as your tree garland. Complete the nautical tree vibe with seashell and anchor ornaments.

Rope Light Garland

For a unique take on the rope theme, intertwine lighting into your rope. This is a DIY project that provides fantastic results.

Other Rope Garlands

You can dress the rope up by adding decorative elements along its length. For example, you can put red or green ties along the rope spacing them out every few feet. Then hang the garland in an area that needs brightening up.

Rope Trees

You can make rope trees by rolling cardstock into a cone shape. Then twist a thin piece of rope around it working from the top down to the bottom.

Rope Ornaments

Similar to the rope trees, you can also make rope ornaments by twisting a thin piece of rope around a round ornament. Another idea is to purchase a clear round ornament that opens and put the rope inside.

Rope Gift Wrap

Robe can also be used instead of a bow or ribbon on gift wrap. You can tie the rope in a bow or use a maritime knot accent. This will look especially good if the paper has a nautical theme like anchors or stripes.

Rope is simple, cheap, durable, and versatile. It makes a terrific decoration that works well in rustic and nautical settings. How will you be incorporating it in this year’s design?
