Decorating: How to Make Your Home Smell Like Christmas

Christmas is an immersive experience. To truly bring the joy, you need the right sights, sounds, and smells. If your home is lacking in those sweet, sweet holiday aromas, here are some tips for how you can get them going.

Simmer Potpourri

You can buy potpourri in advance and simmer it in a potpourri pot, or you can make your own. To make your own, all you need to do is combine elements with Christmas scents, such as cinnamon sticks, and ground spices, in a pot of water. Bring the water to a boil and allow it to simmer. It will fill your home with the delicious aromas of the season in no time.

Mull Wine

Mulled wine is a popular holiday drink, and it will fill your home with a terrific seasonal scent. To make it, combine four cups of apple juice, a bottle of red wine, ¼ cup of honey, and the zest and juice of an orange to a pot along with your choice of spices. Bring it to a low simmer and heat for 10 minutes before serving. In addition to filling your home with a wonderful aroma, you will also have a yummy beverage to enjoy.

Make Your Own Sachet

You can easily make your own sachet by filling a small bag with a variety of scented items. These can include spices, trimmings from a Christmas tree, small, dried fruits, and more. Once you have tied the bags up, you can hang them from a tree, add them to your drawers, and more.

Create a Scented Garland

A scented garland is a terrific decoration, and it will fill your rooms with a great smell. To make one, slice apples and oranges. Then make a thick dough out of cinnamon, cloves, and applesauce. Bake the fruit and cookies in the oven at 250 degrees and use a dehydrator to dry them out. String them on a string and hang them in an area where they will get noticed.

Use Scented Pinecones

You can buy scented pinecones from a craft store, or you can find your own pinecones and scent them yourself. A spritz of cinnamon essential oil should do the trick. Once they have the right aroma, place them around your home in arrangements or add a string and hang them from your Christmas tree.

The holiday season means getting your home looking and smelling festive. The tips in this article will help you infuse your rooms with an aroma that will get everyone in the spirit. What do you do to add that terrific Christmas scent to your house?
