Decorating: What Colors Look Good on a Christmas Tree?

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, the color scheme is everything. It will dictate the look for your entire décor.

With the tree being the focal point of most design schemes, you’ll want to start there when getting the ball rolling. Here are some color combinations that will look terrific on a tree.

Metallics

Metallics are a classic for the holiday season, and they are trending big time this year. Combining different metallics like silver, gold, rose gold, and bronze will add the perfect blend of hues.

When going for a metallic look, it’s important to avoid bringing too many other colors in. A few vibrant reds along with neutral tones will work well.

Tan and Cream

Tan and cream are both warm tones and they are perfect for rustic and country Christmas looks. They are ideal when integrated into ribbons and bows and complemented with white lights and natural elements.

Purple and Yellow

Purple is a royal color that’s often used as an alternative to classic red and green in Christmas design. It’s perfect for luxurious, over the top, vintage looks. A contrasting yellow will make an ideal combination. A bright gold will also work.

Yellow and Orange

Yellow and orange are warm, vibrant colors that will add cheer to the home without overdoing it. They will work well integrated with large ornaments and bold patterns. Throw some red in for extra cheer.

Navy and Silver

Navy is a color that’s been trending in Christmas design for the past few years, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It’s regal, royal and it’s a great representation of the midnight sky. Be sure to bring stars and snow into that equation with tints of silver and silvery-white. It will create the majestic appearance you are going for.

Red and Gold

It’s difficult to create a Christmas design without integrating red. But instead of combining it with the classic green and white, go for gold instead. This will be the ultimate in creating a classic holiday look with a twist.

Pink and Other Pastel Tones

There’s nothing more fun than a pink Christmas. And when it comes to matching colors, you really can’t go wrong.

If you are using a light pink, pastel tones like light blue, lemon yellow, and mint green will be perfect. A brighter pink will work well with bold tones like purples and even reds. Silver and white will make terrific complements for any shade of pink.

Deciding on the color scheme for your tree makes a great starting point for all your decorations. Now that you are familiar with your options, you can plan the rest of your design journey. Which hues will you be integrated this year?
