Decorating: Homemade Tree Ornaments To Make This Christmas Season

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, the Tree is the ‘eau de resistance’. To make yours truly unique, you’ll want to integrate a combination of store bought and homemade ornaments.

Making your own ornaments is a fun holiday activity. You can do it with friends or with the kids. And the real payoff will come when you get to admire your handiwork.

If you are thinking of making your own tree ornaments this Christmas, here are a few ideas that may inspire you.

DIY Baubles

One way to do it is to buy premade baubles at a craft store. You can paint them or add glitter to give them a customized look. You can also fill them with glitter, faux snow, beads, miniatures and more.

Clothespin Ornaments

When it comes to making ornaments from clothespins, the possibilities are endless. One option is to fashion them into a snowflake. Start by removing the springs from 14 mini clothespins. Then turn them so they are back-to-back and glue them together to form a circular shape. Glue gold twine in the middle to hang it from the tree.

Felt Snowman

There are many character ornaments you can make from felt but a snowman is one of the easiest. Cut three round pieces of white felt out to make the snowman’s body and head. Decorate it with black and orange pieces of felt to make the buttons and carrot nose. Affix the pieces to a popsicle stick and glue a string to the top for hanging.

Walnut Rudolph

It may take some motivation to see the likeness between Rudolph’s head and a walnut, but it’s there if you look for it. This will be especially clear if you attach googly eyes, a red pom pom for the nose and felt ears. (Use a hot glue gun to stick the items on). Drill a small hole through the top and string a piece of twine through it so you can hang it from your tree.

Velvet Wrapped Ornament

This one is elegant and simple. Cut a square of velvet fabric and wrap it around a ball ornament. Cinch it around the top with a decorative ribbon. Use the same ribbon (tied through the sash) to make a hanger. Hot glue on pearls and other decorative elements and hang it from the tree.

Christmas is a great time to DIY. These ideas will help you come up with terrific decorations that you can create and hang. Which will you be adding to your tree?
