Decorating: Northern Hemisphere Christmas in July Décor Ideas That Will Bring the Spirit Year Round

Christmas in July is celebrated for different reasons in different parts of the world. In the Northern hemisphere, people celebrate it ironically to keep the spirit alive, even during the dog days of summer.

In the Southern hemisphere, it’s used as a way to celebrate Christmas in a more traditional way. Since people on that side of the world experience the warm temperatures of summer in December, they set aside a day in July so they can enjoy the festive spirit when it’s cold outside.

If you are located in the Northern hemisphere and are looking for a Christmas in July décor theme, incorporating beachy looks into your design is the ideal solution. Here are some ways you can do just that.

Tropical Colors

Who says your décor has to be red and green? To produce a beachy look, try bringing in colors like bright turquoise and vibrant coral. These hues can be featured on lights, Christmas trees, wreaths and any other ornaments you choose to incorporate.

Beach Themed Ornaments

Beach themed ornaments are a great way to capitalize on your Christmas meets beach theme. Think of adding surfing Santas, seashells, surfboards and more. These can be hung on your tree or placed anywhere in your home.

Create Beach Santa Vignettes

Vignettes are small scenes that you can create using your ornaments. Here’s where you can get really creative. Consider combining Christmas looks with beachy items. Place Santa and elf figurines near seashells and surfers.

You can also create a vignette within a mason jar. For inspiration, try filling the mason jar a quarter of the way with sand. Then add small Santas, elves and shells. The jars can be used as centerpieces on the mantle, the coffee table or any other surfaces.

Mixed Media Arts

Mixed media pieces can be incorporated into seasonal designs for a standout look. One idea is to create a tree on a board using shells, stones and other summery items. A starfish makes the ideal tree topper.

Shell Wreaths

Shells and starfish can be hung on strings as garland and displayed throughout the home, but for a really stand out piece consider buying or making a wreath completely out of shells. It is sure to get your guests’ attention.

Patio Lights Instead of Christmas Lights

Nothing says luau quite like some great patio lights especially those in fun shapes like peppers, pineapples or palm trees. Integrate them into your Christmas lighting scheme to infuse the beachy spirit into your design. It’s important not to overdo it by completely replacing Christmas lights with patio lights. Using the two together will create the perfect dynamic.

Christmas comes twice a year. Make each occasion special by decorating accordingly. What will your Christmas in July theme be this summer?
