Things That Made Me Smile This Summer

How are we halfway through September already?? I’m still surprised that we even made it to Summer so quickly through a pandemic and now it’s over?!

Recognizing that there is still a pandemic going on has me so grateful that I was still able to enjoy many of the things summer has to offer. Sure, our favourite festivals and events were cancelled and summer travel was greatly reduced, but there are still some things that made me Smile this summer.

Lake beaches

Boy, does it fuel me to go to a hot beach on a Saskatchewan lake, soak up those rays, dip my legs in the water, and enjoy the outdoors! I was worried about going to a public beach in the first place, but there was enough space for us to distance, and it helped with my sanity immensely!

Seeing strangers at the park

There’s something about walking through town and watching the bustle of people going about their lives. On one such walk of mine, I went through a park by the river where there were people having a picnic, a family on a bike ride, someone doing yoga in the grass, people walking their dogs… It was so nice to see people living their lives! (And of course, we were all keeping our distance from people not within our social bubbles.)

Wedding dress shopping and engagement photos

These activities were different because there were masks involved and a whole lot of unusual rules, but I still got to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and sister and I still got to take engagement photos with the fiance, keeping the wedding magic alive! I wrote a post on what it’s like to plan a wedding during a pandemic if you’re interested!

Celebrations

It’s wedding season in my close group of friends so we’re celebrating! Events look much smaller, and there’s a lot more care put into them, but I’m so grateful for the chance to still come together and celebrate these big life moments.

Pursuing my life coaching career

This summer I took the plunge and started by getting life coaching certification. Then I took another plunge and practiced on real-life people. Then ANOTHER plunge and I publicly announced that I was offering life coaching for creatives! (Here’s the blog post where I made the announcement.) What a weird, wonderful, and scary journey that’s been!

This summer has been so different in so many ways. And yet, I was still just trying to enjoy summer dresses, cold drinks, and time with the people I love – not so different after all.

What made you smile this summer?

Enjoy the journey,

Heather
