That means you simply can’t put off the time to figure out where to go for that treasured winter family vacation that you are banking on to help build those memories and create quality bonding time with your loved ones. There are so many options, it’s hard to choose the best one. If you’re looking for a destination that is perfect for your whole family, then let us help point you in the right direction. We’ll tell you what to do and where to go for an unforgettable winter vacation experience. If you’re looking for a family-friendly winter getaway, we’ve handpicked the 7 best options to check out right now. Lake Tahoe, California, and Nevada This is a popular locale — I mentioned Lake Tahoe in my post on Spectacular Winter Destinations. But it deserves it! Lake Tahoe is a scenic location that has everything one could look for in a winter vacation, especially if you are trying to immerse yourself in a cooler climate. The snow-capped mountains, the beautiful crystal clear blue waters, the natural pine forests, and of course the endless snow-covered ski slopes are only some of the reasons why Tahoe is an ideal place to spend your winter break. With new snowfall every day, you are sure to have access to fresh powder skiing. It’s also one of the best places for cross-country skiing in America. There are plenty of options for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and fishing. You can even go on guided tours of neighboring communities with knowledgeable guides during your stay at Lake Tahoe. It is a true treasure for nature lovers and winter sports enthusiasts. I also have a special connection to Lake Tahoe as it is the place when my lovely husband of 20 years proposed to me! Cancun, Mexico If you are on the opposite end of the thought process and looking to get away from the cold winter weather, then Cancun, Mexico could be the perfect destination for you. It has a little bit of everything – from long stretches of sugar sand beach to ancient Mayan ruins. There are plenty of water parks in the area for kids and adults alike if saltwater activities and wildlife make you nervous. Add in several nightclubs where you can dance the night away if you want to party like there is no tomorrow and love the nightlife. The real treasure of the area is the ability to experience some underwater life in an up-close and personal setting. Incredible waters for scuba diving or snorkeling are easily available for those who want to stay active while on vacation. Cancun, Mexico has something for every member of your family ranging from outdoor adventures to poolside relaxation. Big Bear Lake, California Nestled in a canyon and surrounded by granite peaks and towering pines, Big Bear Lake is perhaps best known for its celebrity sightings. It’s no wonder that Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks and Arnold Schwarzenegger call this small town their home. The gorgeous surroundings have been featured in hit movies such as Groundhog Day and television shows including Californication. With its incredible mountain views and hiking trails, every member of your family should be able to find something they love to try. There is skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or sledding. Families who want a break from winter sports can enjoy a hike in the mountains or a horseback ride by a frozen lake. And. The. Food. The town has incredible restaurants with different cuisines including Italian food and Mexican food, sure to tempt the tastebuds of all who indulge in them. Colorado Springs, Colorado Hands down, one of my favorites! Colorado Springs is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, but even more so over the holiday season. It is easy to see why the government put a military base in the area and the Olympic Ice Skating facility was based here. It is a hub for all sorts of activities that are perfect for family vacations. The Colorado Springs Botanical Gardens are a hidden treasure in the making. From their lush gardens to stunning fountains and animals around every corner, there is always something new for visitors at this place! I can’t recommend the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo enough. Seriously, zoos are always a great adventure for families, but being able to hand feed a giraffe or have wild deer pass you as you walk through the place? Priceless. If you’re looking for a fun and exciting park that has breathtaking views, then you need to head on down to Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs where your family will be treated with fresh air by stunning landscapes such as gardens filled with flowers or huge rocks overlooking green fields below; there’s always something new around every corner! For ice skating, there is The Colorado Springs Municipal Ice Skating rink. This large ice skating rink has public skate sessions and offers lessons for those who want to learn from professionals from the National Hockey League. The Bahamas There are many reasons why people choose the Bahamas for winter vacation, affordability topping the list of reasons. The cost of living there is much lower than in the United States, which makes it possible to visit and play comfortably on a budget. It has some of the best beaches in the world and it’s never really chilly be because it’s in the tropics. That makes it a fantastic place to escape to if you want a warmer locale. With world-class resorts that offer amenities like golf courses, casinos, spas, and nightclubs everyone will be entertained during their stay. For those who want to venture out, there are plenty of activities one can do on land or water including exploring beautiful beaches and snorkeling through the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. You can swim with everything from pigs to sharks on side tours – and yes, we said pigs! Florida Keys Certainly one of the most scenic and beautiful places in America, the Florida Keys is a great winter getaway for those who want to stay in the states. One of the best things about the Florida Keys is the water temperature which is around 63 degrees F all throughout the year. This makes it a wonderful place to stay during the winter and to escape from cold weather. There are numerous kid-friendly attractions like dolphin encounters and snorkel excursions, as well as family-friendly attractions like amusement parks and marine life exhibits at Dolphin Research Center. Going without the kids? There are plenty of activities for adults too including fishing charters, deep-sea fishing trips, and guided scuba diving expeditions. My then-boyfriend and I visited Key West and went on a snorkeling expedition. There was a lot of cool wildlife to see in the water. I also checked and the very cool inn we stayed in — the SpeakEasy Inn — is still open! Orlando-Walt Disney World Let the Magic of the Mouse be your guide to family fun! Orlando-Walt Disney World offers a wide range of attractions and activities for the whole family to enjoy with a variety of theme parks to accommodate any and every age. There is also Disney Springs: a large shopping and dining area where you can find lots of restaurants, stores, and entertainment venues. It tends to be a more budget-friendly way to get a little Disney fix. Don’t forget SeaWorld! An animal theme park that allows visitors to touch sea creatures such as dolphins and get up close with sharks or get behind the scenes with trainers who care for the animals every day. Are you a Harry Potter fan? Universal Studios Orlando is a fantastic place to get your wizarding fix. There are shows, rides, and even an entire section of the park dedicated to Harry Potter which makes it so much fun for fans of all ages! In Conclusion… So what do you think? Have we convinced you that winter family vacations can be just as exciting as summer vacations? Go ahead – give one or all of these vacations a try and you’ll see for yourself! Are you taking a vacation with your family this year? Where are you considering visiting?
