How Can I Train My Mind Not To Crave Junk Food?

What is Healthy and what is unhealthy? The debate goes on and on! But if you are addicted to Junk despite knowing that it isn’t the best food to relish for a healthy body, how can you get over your addiction? There are ways to train your mind not to love junk. Let’s see how.

Testing Your Brain Power

When you know junk is unhealthy but still want to reach out to all things processed, how can you train yourself to quit that addiction?

What’s in the brain

In order to train your mind to get over an addiction, you ought to explore your brain first and understand your own thought process. Are you addicted to sugary foods or spicy ones? Do you crave more for fries or shakes? When you find the answer, training your brain will become easier.

For example, if you love sugar foods, don’t stock them in the pantry. Instead, keep healthier natural sugars, such as fruits and homemade healthy whole grain products.

Let the hatred begin

Now you need to create a game plan to fight it out. If junk is within easy reach, you need to distance yourself from it. Instead of packing your pantry with store-bought junk, create a list of healthy ingredients that you can use to make a substitute. When you train your mind to hate store-bought junk, you will fall in love with homemade healthy. By picking healthier alternatives to all the ingredients on the shelves, you can train your mind to stay away from junk.

Balance your blood sugar

You suddenly start craving for that sugar and fat-laden pie, knowing it is not healthy. Why? Well, the prime culprit here is the fluctuating blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar drops, you’ll want to reach out to that fat and sugar bomb, thinking your body needs a sugar spike.

Now you want to enjoy a healthy blood sugar balance in order to keep away from junk. Eating a healthy snack every three hours is a great idea. You may include a handful of seeds and nuts as part of your snack times.

What are you actually eating

One reason you want to grab that red velvet cupcake is that it tastes yum, satiates your taste buds, and gives you a high. But if you want to stay away from junk, ask yourself what makes it junk. What gives it that eye-popping red color? What adds a depth of flavor to it? What makes it so melt-in-the-mouth? Why do you love it?

Answers to some of these questions will solve the riddle for you. If you really think of a healthy life, you would never want to reach out to that packaged stuff again, knowing what all has gone into it.

What’s the way out? Well, try making a healthier alternative at home.

Eat mindfully

When you focus only on the food on your platter, you will end up chewing more to release its juices and tempt your taste buds. Not only this, you eating mindfully and slowly will help you cut down on your overall intake too. If you spend more time in eating something, you are likely to eat less. After 20 minutes, the stomach starts to give you a feeling of fullness. When you master this exercise, it will become a healthy habit. What more do you want?
